When they arrived in the mail I was beyond excited, I was actually a little nervous to open them and see if they were what I had been drooling over for the past 8 months on the internet. Regardless I opened the package as fast as I could and pulled out that plush, bright, soft FuzziBunz and I knew I was hooked! I inspected them, snapped them in every size that was possible, could they really fit an 8 pound baby and a 35 pound toddler? It took every ounce of self control I had not to race over to our daycare provider’s house to see how P would look in them. I wanted them washed and cleaned so that he could wear them when he got home, so I threw them in the wash with our Seventh Generation laundry detergent, our Rockin’ Green wouldn’t be here for a few more days and sat in front of the washing machine waiting for them to finish! I hung them up to dry and went back to work; my mind was on them all afternoon! When we got home I ran right over to the drying rack and to my dismay they were still damp, even the covers were damp. I was a little disappointed that it would be another day before we got to try them out, but I knew it was worth the wait!
When we finally made it home the next evening I instantly raced over to select a cloth diaper, a brown one, and put it on P. His face lit up with joy at the new comfier version of protection that covered his bottom. I was instantly in love with this diaper, the inner micro fleece was soft and plush, even after being washed, and the inserts were so easy for me and my husband to stuff in the pockets. The adjustments for his size were perfect, insuring a perfect fit for his chubby legs and pot belly. We were amazed at how comfortable he looked and seemed. He was so proud of his new attire that he actually refused to allow us to put pants on him that evening. Although they held up to 3 dirties that evening, with no leaking, blowout, or any other form of seepage, I was still nervous to let him sleep in it over night. I didn’t want him to wake up in the morning drenched, but my husband insisted that we test them out, especially because P woke up 50% of the time wet from peeing out of his disposables anyway, so we really wouldn’t be doing him any more harm. On went a green apple FuzziBunz one size, double stuffed, under his basketball jammies and we kissed him good night and went about our night, me constantly thinking about how the diaper was holding up. When my husband went in to change him the next morning, P was perfectly dry, even his “area” was dry to the touch! That was the sealed deal on my love for cloth diapers and FuzziBunz!
Our initial ordered was made up of 12 One size FuzziBunz to get us started, but because I am curious and love to compare brands I have since received one BumGenius 4.0 one size, one Rumparooz G2 One Size, one Flip one size with insert, and One FuzziBunz Perfect size in Large. I have to say that my favorite by fair is FuzziBunz, both the one size and perfect fit are great choices. The FuzziBunz seems like a better one size diaper then the others, the way that you can adjust the legs and waist is perfect for us. The micro fleece in the inside of the diaper seems thicker and softer, as do the inserts. They wash amazingly well and they are the ones that our little guy seems the most comfortable in. The other diapers are great diapers, but our go to diaper is definitely FuzziBunz!

Our love for the Fuzzi on our babies Bunz!
Those diapers still earned their keep (and really, with prefolds, you can't go wrong. They'll almost always earn their keep), which is why my husband and I were willing to re-try cloth diapers on our second child using the newer, modern cloth diapers. In particular, we wanted to try out the one-size pocket diapers. We started out with seven one-size diapers, and it was love at first sight.
Our daughter is now 14 months old, and just passed her one-year mark in cloth diapers. That first diaper was a Happy Heinys One-Size, and it held everything my breastfed daughter could throw at it. You can see her in the picture I proudly posted to Facebook that day with the caption, “2 months old - 1st day in the new cloth diapers. All went well!”
We really liked our Happy Heinys, but our daughter was (and still is) tiny. The Happy Heinys were almost too big. So when we ordered our overnight diapers (Thirsties Duo Sized 2) and received a free FuzziBunz One Size diaper as part of a Kelly's Closet Promotion, we were ecstatic at the size difference. The FuzziBunz One Size seemed smaller and fit her smaller frame so trimly that we weren't sure they'd last 6 months before being outgrown. Luckily, they do fit a range of sizes and at 14 months, there is still plenty of room to grow.
And this is how we reached stash-isfaction.
Overnight Diapers:
Thirsties Duo Size 2. (5 diapers) Since we never started cloth diapering at night until our daughter was 4 months old, the Size 2 made sense for us. We really like the dual-layers of microfiber and hemp-as-soft-as-your-favorite-tshirt for overnight. And as it turns out, the overnight diaper is the only one we like Aplix closures on.
Around the house:
Flip One Size Covers (5 covers) with homemade inserts (18 inserts). The homemade inserts were made using an hourglass shape. One layer of fleece, 2-3 layers of microfiber, and 3 layers of old tshirt can be zig-zag stiched together or serged for a cute and economical (less thatn $1/insert) insert.
Cloth-Eez Workhorse Diapers (12 diapers). I picked these up at Green Mountain Diapers, and look forward to the day they'll be available at other retailers. You couldn't ask for a more durable and economical fitted diaper.
Out of the house:
FuzziBunz One Size (9 diapers): You can't beat the color selection on these bright and cheerful pocket diapers. I love them for quick changes away from home, and for their unbelievable trimness under jeans. And they look absolutely adorable under dresses.
Quantity-wise we have more than we need (especially counting the homemade inserts) but flexibility-wise, it's just what we want.

A year in cloth
These days, there are many seals of approvals and awards to be had, some more meaningful than others. This week, I was thrilled to see the announcement of the some of the latest PTPA winners and even more excited to see that two of my manufacturers have yet again gained the PTPA seal of approval. Hats off to the FuzziBunz One-Size Cloth Diaper and the GroVia Cloth AIO Diaper! I know of the rigorous testing you went through and I applaud your achievement.
For those of you unfamiliar, PTPA Media provides an objective framework for appraising and promoting new products designed to enrich family living. The company's mission is to marry innovative companies with discerning consumers, to improve families’ access to quality products and services. All products are tested rigorously by an independent panel of parent volunteers who evaluate these products in their own homes. When I see this seal on a particular product, it is quite meaningful, as I know that PTPA goes out directly to the consumers of these products to test them. This is important and helpful to me when I source for only the BEST products to bring to you. No fancy marketing gimmicks, just tried and true!

I’m going to let you in on a dirty little secret. I have a diaper sprayer, but I don’t use it! I know, I know. I do agree that the diaper sprayer is one of the best inventions in cloth diaper care. It truly does rinse all the nasties off without you having to resort to unpleasant maneuvers such as the “dunk and swish”. But alas, my sprayer hangs forlornly on the side of the toilet, unused for weeks. Let me tell you my story…
Back when my gorgeous 6 month old was only a wish in my heart, I decided that I would cloth diaper my children. It just seemed like the most health conscious, environmentally friendly, economical thing to do. My husband, being the laid back man than he is, agreed wholeheartedly. So, when after years of infertility, our son was born prematurely, it was a shock to me that he wouldn’t fit into any of the millions (it felt like) of Bumgenius, Fuzzibunz, and Smartipants diapers that I had stocked up on. Plus, he was in the NICU, and it was all too overwhelming…the nurses changed him more than we did. So, we fell into using disposables.
When we brought our son home we continued using the disposables until one day, at nearly 2 months old, I realized that the Bumgenius organic AIO fit! I was so excited; I could finally switch to the cloth diapers and wipes I had so lovingly bought for my son. But, I was worried about one thing. The poop.
You see, back when I had decided to cloth diaper I had never had a baby before, much less changed a poopy diaper. I didn’t know what baby poop was like. That is oozed into places it had no business being. That it could be runny, or chunky, or stick to the butt cheeks like tar on a runway. That it could be so explosive and a little 10 lb. baby could produce so much! But I was determined; so on we went with the switch to cloth!
Now, for the first few weeks I was an excellent cloth diaperer. I would change my son’s diaper and then place him in the crib to stare at his mobile while I would diligently employ my diaper sprayer to clean every spot of poo off of his diaper. I would, fearful of stains, run that sprayer until I was sure I had used up an entire body of water somewhere nearby. And my diaper would still have poo streaks (of course the washing machine would remedy this) and would be sopping wet.
As my son got older, more mobile and less content to sit in his crib after a diaper change (or even get his diaper changed, for that matter!) I noticed a terrible trend. Instead of spraying my diapers after each use, I would set the dirty diaper on the counter in the bathroom, vowing to spray it off later and put it in the diaper pail. A day would go by, and there would be 8 diapers, 10 diapers, 12 diapers. The piles were getting out of hand, but I was consumed with motherhood, and any free moment I used to take a shower, not spray diapers.
One fateful day, I opened my diaper drawer and realized I was down to my last two cloth diapers. My son was fussy, I had a scratch in my throat that I was praying would not turn into a cold, and I desperately wanted to put a lasagna in the over before my husband got home. I bemoaned that fact that I was a cloth diaperer. Oh how easy it would be to just grab a disposable! I knew I had to wash my diapers- and quick- but upon opening the bathroom door to retrieve the diaper pail I was greeted by mountains of unsprayed, dirty diapers. How in the world had I let so many build up without spraying them off!? In a moment of desperation I just threw all the diapers into the wash, unsprayed, full of days old poop, praying everything would turn out OK. I was on the verge of giving up the whole cloth diapering idea. But, to my surprise, the diapers were spotless! In fact, this desperation wash attempt went so well that I began to wonder why in the world I was spending all this time spraying diapers. My Rockin’ Green and wash routine was ensuring that the dirty, poopy diapers came out just as clean.
So, that is how I became a lazy cloth diaperer. How my diaper sprayer has gone unused for weeks and weeks. When I change a diaper, whether wet or poopy, into the pail it goes, no spraying at all. For my top loader I use a 15 minute cold rinse cycle with 1 scoop of Rockin’ green, then a full hot wash cycle with 2 scoops of Rockin’ Green, then an extra rinse. The diapers are perfect every time. Occasionally I do get stains, just like I did when I was religiously spraying my diapers, but I just set them out in the sun and they whiten right up.
Once my son starts solids I know everything will change. We’ll be dealing with another type of dirty diaper all together. But, if you’re thinking about cloth diapering your newborn, and you are worried about poop, like I was, take it from me: you really can just put it in the washing machine and get clean diapers. It sure has saved me a lot of time, and restarted my love affair with cloth diapers. Plus, I have more time to spend with my adorable son, and who wouldn’t want that?

My Scoop on Poop

The Cloth Diaper Whisperer is heading to BlogHer10
When each of us made the decision to use cloth diapers, we knew we were doing something good for our babies. In addition to surrounding them with soft fabrics every day, by cloth diapering we are helping to leave them a better planet with fewer diapers in landfills and less of a reliance on a continuous supply of chemical- and petroleum-based products. That much we know.Now with the horrific oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, using cloth diapers is all that much more important. The diapers you use and reuse each day protect our natural resources. And each day that oil continues to gush into our oceans, we are reminded of just how precious those resources are.
As the oil continues to wash up on shore, the people and wildlife in that region need our help. What you may not realize is that the super absorbent fabrics that make up most of the cloth diapers and baby blankets we use, can also be used to mop up the oil that is coming ashore. So as cloth diaper users, you can double your environmental impact by donating old cloth diapers, cloth diaper inserts, baby blankets and absorbent fabrics to the cause. We encourage you to begin collecting these items and we will post more here about how you can come together with the rest of the cloth diapering community to donate them for use in the clean-up efforts.

Cloth Diapers for the Coast
My son was born weighing 10 lb. 4 oz. and did not fit into the newborn-sized diapers I purchased for him. He has continued to be large for his age, always measuring in the 95th percentile in height and 80th in weight. Around 18 months old, we had troubles squeezing him into most of his “one-size” diapers, especially nighttime pockets that needed extra stuffing. Friends told me that he’d “slim down” and his diapers would fit well again and that he is not really chubby. He’s just tall and solid and his physique has not changed. By 20 months, diapering was nearly impossible and our son was upset that his diapers were pinching or digging in on his skin. I had to find other solutions.My search began in our own diaper stash. I found his Thirsties large covers still fit perfectly, but the “one-size” fitteds and standard prefolds did not. I ordered large Thirsties Fab Fitteds and found this to be an EXCELLENT combo with plenty of room to grow. The Fab Fitted is so soft and stretchy and the cover is plenty roomy. Also in our home stash, we found FuzziBunz perfect fit diapers in large are also still fitting and working, though on the last hip and waist snaps. Bumkins large all-in-ones fit great and are a favorite with babysitters, grandparents and my husband. But our combined stash of all these items added up to 6 diapers, and I do diaper laundry every OTHER day usually.
Yay! Time for shopping! There are some terrific new options out there! The Sandy’s Toddle-ease fitted paired with a Mother-Ease Air Flow cover in the toddler size is incredibly absorbent and very roomy. I find this combo is a bit bulky, so works best at home with no pants, with stretchy pants like sweats, or with jammies. With a Babykicks Hemparoo Joey Bunz doubler laid inside and a wool soaker cover outside, the Sandy’s Toddle-ease is without a doubt our new nighttime solution.The softest, most comfortable (and hands down ABSOLUTE trimmest under clothing) of our new finds is the Bamboo Baby all-in-one toddler size. My son prefers this diaper and keeps asking for it. (He says, “New softie diaper, please, Mommy!”) The Thirsties Duo diaper in size 2 is a consistent part of our new rotation and like the large Thirsties cover and Fab-Fitted, offers a soft, stretchy diaper with room to grow. One of my favorite finds and the one that will also work when potty-training is the Little Beetle Organic Velour Cotton Learners. These training pants are thick and absorbent where it matters and have worked as well as any diaper with his Thirsties, Mother-Ease airflow or wool soaker covers on top. The Little Beetle Learners are also a great option when we are at home and he can wear them alone to more easily use the potty. They pull on and off like pants, or have snaps on the hips for easy removal when wet or soiled. The Knickernappies side-snapping pocket diaper is also a true fits-to-40-pounds diaper and one my son can’t take off when he wakes up from his naps. (Bonus!)
There are a few brands of one-size diapers from our past diapering (now mostly being used on our 4 month old) that will still work in a pinch, but do exactly that - pinch. It took a bit of research and some trial and error, but keeping our big toddler in cloth that fits until he’s using the potty is the best reward.

Fluff Friday 71 PLUS Twitter and Facebook Winners
We started cloth diapering when our son was 1 month old, which is when he started fitting into the bumGenius 3.0 One Size diapers we had. At the time, we used commercial disposable wipes we had confirmed were safe (ingredient wise) on cosmeticsdatabase.com. Even though they were considered "safe" they gave him an awful diaper rash that made him absolutely miserable. Therefore we decided to switch to cloth wipes and plain water; we've been using this method for about 2 months at it works great for us. Although we tried the storing the wipes in a wipe container method we much prefer the "spray and wipe" method best. After trying three different brands of wipes - here's a rundown of my experience and thoughts:
bumGenius Bamboo Wipes
These are very similar to baby washcloths; a relatively thin terrycloth-type material. They hold up well wash after wash. They work well for getting in all the nooks and crannies. Although they are thin they absorb water really well. These wipes performed equally whether spraying and wiping or stored in a wipe solution. These are only available in the natural color. These cost $12.95 for a package of 8 at Kelly's Closet - or $1.62 each. The bumGenius Bamboo Wipes are my favorite; they're just the right thickness, the price isn't too bad, and they absorb really well (almost as well as the Thirsties).
Thirsties Fab Cloth Wipes
Thirsties Fab Cloth Wipes are the largest of the three brands I've tried. They are double sided; very soft fleece on one side, and a cotton velour on the other. The fleece side does pill up a bit in the wash (doesn't affect the use of the wipe only a cosmetic issue), otherwise they hold up well in the wash. If you're looking for a super absorbent wipe then these are for you; they're absorbency champs! Both the spray method and the wipes solution, these wipes did the best job at absorbing liquid and wiping up messes. My only complaint is that they are a little on the thick side. They come in a choice of "boy" colors and "girl" colors. The boy pack came with orange, blue, white, and yellow. It was nice to have an assortment of color in my stack of wipes. However, at 6 for $10.50 or $1.75 each, these were the most expensive. These are my second favorite wipe; they absorb fantastically, just too thick for my preference.
FuzziBunz(R) Organic Cotton Wonder Wipes
Simple, square piece of organic cotton, the FuzziBunz Wonder Wipes are the thinnest wipes, which is great for getting in all the little crevices. They have held up well through repeated washings. Out of the three, these absorbed the least when using the spray method. The water beads up more so than on the others, probably due to them being woven, and not a terry-type texture. However, when using them stored in a wipe solution they did great. The price is right for these wipes; a package of 10 wipes is $13 or $1.30 each - making these one of the more economical wipe options. The wipes were just a little to thin for my preference and I wanted something more absorbent.
The verdict? bumGenius Bamboo wipes are the best option for performance and price (Thirsties come in a close second).
Now I only have to wait to see how the wipes perform when my little one starts solid food!

Both the spray method and the wipes solution, these wipes did the best job at absorbing liquid and wiping up messes. My only complaint is that they are a little on the thick side. They come in a choice of "boy" colors and "girl" colors. The boy pack came with orange, blue, white, and yellow. It was nice to have an assortment of color in my stack of wipes. However, at 6 for $10.50 or $1.75 each, these were the most expensive. These are my second favorite wipe; they absorb fantastically, just too thick for my preference.
FuzziBunz(R) Organic Cotton Wonder Wipes
Simple, square piece of organic cotton, the FuzziBunz Wonder Wipes are the thinnest wipes, which is great for getting in all the little crevices. They have held up well through repeated washings. Out of the three, these absorbed the least when using the spray method. The water beads up more so than on the others, probably due to them being woven, and not a terry-type texture. However, when using them stored in a wipe solution they did great. The price is right for these wipes; a package of 10 wipes is $13 or $1.30 each - making these one of the more economical wipe options. The wipes were just a little to thin for my preference and I wanted something more absorbent.
The verdict? bumGenius Bamboo wipes are the best option for performance and price (Thirsties come in a close second).
Now I only have to wait to see how the wipes perform when my little one starts solid food!

Wipe on, Wipe Off
When I first started looking into cloth diapering my son, I wanted the easiest way to go.. Prefolds and Snappis frightened me at first; I didn’t think I would stick with it if I went that route. So I started out with pocket; my first diapers were FuzziBunz pockets, bumGenius pockets, Haute Pockets, and Starbunz diapers. I wanted diapers that would be daddy and grandparent friendly so I wouldn’t have to be the only one changing diapers. Pockets fit that perfectly and I was sold!When my son came along I was over the moon to put him in cloth and see that fluffy little bum! All 7lbs 11oz of him fit into the diapers that I had, which I was thrilled about! It was pretty easy to just snap or Velcro the diaper on. I wanted the easiest way possible, even more so in those days of no sleep, and it looked so easy to just put the insert in the pocket. Daddy was sold on the diapers after that first diaper change and seeing how easy it was. Once he also saw how much money we were saving not having to run to the store to buy diapers like we did with our first son, he wished we would have cloth diapered from day one!
After a little while, I got more willing to branch out to other diapers, I added some fitted diapers into my stash, which worked great for around the house when I wanted his little bum to get some air, I would just leave him coverless unless we were going out.
Even now that he is almost 4 months old, we’re still figuring out what we like and don’t like and trying different types of diapers. Starting out with the pockets for him as a newborn really was my best choice; they made cloth diapers seem so easy and got me hooked! I also had so much fun seeing his little bum in all the cute diapers, they really are as easy as disposables.

Diapering a Newborn? Sold on Pockets!
What I am about to reveal is an unfiltered, full-strength view of the process by which I choose my daughter’s diapers at each and every diaper change. This is less about the functionality of the different diapers and more about the fun I have with them. Given the details you’re about to read you might think I’d be embarrassed; actually there’s a good chance you will think I should be embarrassed, but in this forum I have no shame. Expose me to the rest of the world and I’m a complete lunatic, but amongst my fellow fluff friends, I’m just one of the girls. My first revelation is that the outfit my daughter will wear for the day is usually chosen based on which diapers are available for use. Yes, you read it, her diapers dictate her fashion! I usually choose dresses because they provide optimal exposure for the diap. My favorite dresses are multicolored because they allow me the widest variety of diapers to choose. It’s not as simple as matching the outfit to the diaper, however. In fact, I usually don’t “match.” I coordinate. Yes, there is a difference! Stay with me now…I will never put a diaper on that is the same color as the predominant color in the dress, too predictable! I will pull a secondary or tertiary color in the dress and that will be the diaper I choose. For instance, a purple striped dress with yellow flowers and green stems? On go the Butternut or Grasshopper bumGenius One Size diaper. Pink dress with eggplant stripes? The Blackberry Gro Baby is the obvious choice. My favorite is a little navy dress that has so many colors in it that I can use the Blossom, Twilight, Grasshopper or Zinnia Bum Genius, as well as two different colors of SoftBums. I have waaay too much fun with this!
Trimness is another very important factor. My Gro Baby or hemp-stuffed bumGenius diapers are the trimmest in our stash. I will always reach for these first when going out. I’ll also put these on with outfits requiring pants so she doesn’t look so bulky. My FuzziBunz Perfect Size diapers are usually my nap or in-the-house-with-a-t-shirt diapers because they’re a little thicker. And they just seem so soft and cozy for naptime. I’ll always save a bumGenius for the end of the day and double stuff it for overnight.
Factors that are always in the back of my head…I have more Blossom and Zinnia in my stash than any other color so I will use those for naps, etc and save my blues, greens, purples, yellows, etc for fun matching opportunities. I will try to coordinate with my Gro Baby when possible if we’re going out because the shells are reusable and I can just throw a couple of snap-ins into my diaper bag. And my poor Happy Heinys One Size diaper, though I truly do love the function of the diaper, rarely sees the light of day or the public eye. 
With all of these complicated factors, coordinating colors and contrasting patterns you would think a diaper change would take forever, but, scary as it may sound, this has become second nature for me. I can dress my daughter quicker (and, like most moms, better) than I can dress myself. It is a fine-tuned, carefully honed skill and for right now I have a very compliant little model. Now if only dressing my 4 year old was this easy…

Diaper Change Decisions
I wanted to give my first impressions after using my cloth diapers for about a month and a half now. As mentioned in my earlier post, I started with one Happy Heiny, two Fuzzi Bunz, one Bum Genius Organic One Size All-in-One and one Bum Genius One Size pocket. After a quick trial I decided that I definitely needed (and wanted) more diapers so I picked my favorite of the bunch, the Bum Genius One Size Pocket and ordered more of those so they would make up the majority of my day-to-day stash. I call this my “So-Far” stash because, as I’m writing, I have an order en route to my house with three new brands/styles of diapers to try and, let’s face it, even that won’t be the end of my stash building! I say it’s all in the name of “research” so I can share my findings and help others make informed decisions. Truth be told… these things are a vice for me, much like chocolate, soft cheeses and Cherry Coke!I’ve listed my likes and dislikes, as well as a summary, based on my own experiences with these diapers.
Happy Heiny:
- Likes: strong aplix, good fit, soft fleece, easy to clean, comes out of the wash looking brand new, sizing will last as my daughter grows, not too bulky, easy to stuff, Velcro can overlap for snug fit
- Dislikes: leaked once (very early on, could have been user error), sometimes insert can stick out of the back
Fuzzi Bunz:
- Likes: very soft fleece, cleans easily, doesn’t hold stains, fluffs right up with washing, easy to stuff, no leaks, snug fit if you can get it right
- Dislikes: snap positionings are tough for the right fit, bulkiest diaper in my stash
Bum Genius One Size Pocket Diapers:- Likes: trim, easy to use, goes on easily (much like a disposable), insert is tucked away nicely, colors are beautiful, never a leak, use it overnight with a doubler with no leaks
- Dislikes: the pocket flap that I love for keeping the insert is tough when using my diaper sprayer: the poop can get caught in the pocket and water builds up in the flap, the aplix tab can be scratchy and the aplix is starting to get slightly frayed so can see where they might not wear very well over time.
Bum Genius One Size Organic All-In-One:
- Likes: very trim, the ease of AIO, just grab and go, organic, easy to clean, drying time not a big deal to me
- Dislikes: moisture stays close to her skin

I am a cloth diaper “Newbie.” I wear that title with pride and passion. Though I’m a Newbie I’m already a lot of other things…obsessed, in love, ready to sing from the hilltops!
If there is a “typical” cloth diapering mom (which I’m quickly learning there isn’t) I certainly don’t fit the profile. If you know me well you know that I care about the environment and have made some big changes to my lifestyle to live a greener life, but I don’t advertise or preach it. My family was surprised that I would move to cloth diapers, but might have expected it. My extended circle of friends is shocked, curious and a little grossed out! I’m comfortable with the role of being a cloth diapering trendsetter amongst my peers and determined to create some converts.
There are a couple of universal hurdles, myths and fears that I think makes everyone nervous with cloth diapers. I think these are the main reasons why people are resistant to even trying cloth diapers: poops, laundry, leaks and diaper rash. I used these issues as the basis for my testing and tackled each one head-on: I encountered the first cloth diaper hurdle when I got my first poop. I took it straight to our utility sink in our laundry room and rinsed it there. Considering that every poop in a disposable had resulted in a blow-out, I was very accustomed to rinsing out my daughter’s clothes. Rinsing the diaper was much easier and a lot less icky (a very technical term when testing cloth diapers). I have since purchased the bumGenius diaper sprayer which has made poop diapers even easier to deal with. Score one for the cloth diapers!
My next test, and probably the most important to me, was keeping my daughter dry and rash-free. Each time I took off her diapers I would pat her little bottom to see how wet or dry it was. It was dry every time! The insert could be soaked, but the part of the diaper touching her body was dry and her skin was perfect. And, I must say, I have put these diapers through the test. I have left one on her for up to four hours during the day 
I really wanted to love this cloth diapering thing and I wanted it to work for my family. I was so worried that something: leaks, inconveniences, rashes, etc would make me give up. I put them through so many tests: changed them on the go, taken them on vacation, left them on much longer than I should, used them overnight, cleaned the poops, done the laundry, used them for long car rides and they have far surpassed my expectations. They are greener, better performing and gentler for my baby than disposables. And don’t even get me started on how cute they are!!!
