Since July, BabyKicks has offered a free online cloth diaper class for anyone who is willing to tune in. The class was started in response to the need to spread the word about cloth diapering. Many people are so used to the idea of disposable diapers that using cloth doesn't even cross their mind. So, we started thinking that if an online class was available to everyone so they can watch at home, at work (during lunch of course), or wherever they have internet access than people would be more likely to choose cloth over disposables. And, this makes it easier for dads and caregivers to learn about the many benefits and just how easy cloth diapering really is. Plus, there are so many cloth diapering options available today and so few local retailers that specialize in them that it can be hard to decide what type of diaper will work best for every family.

In our Cloth Diaper 101 webinars we explain the different types of cloth diapers, closures, how to wash, how to store, environmental impact, and of course the money savings. We have had an excellent turn out so far, and during our first class we had about 30 unique viewers from all over the United States! We even had a couple of viewers from over seas, and that was great to see. It's so nice knowing we have the support of our customers, retailers, and fellow cloth diaper advocates.

We plan to continue holding the webinars as long as there is a demand to learn about cloth diapers. We also want to thank everyone for the support we have received and we hope to convert more and more families as the classes continue. If you are interested in cloth diapers or you know someone who is hesitant, feel free to tune in to our next Cloth Diaper 101 webinar at www.ustream.tv/channel/BabyKicks. Chances are you will be pleasantly surprised!

In case you missed it (or you don’t live in our home state of Maine!), DiaperShops owner, Kelly Wels, appeared this morning on Good Day Maine with three cloth diapering moms and babies to talk about modern cloth diapers! Two segments aired this morning during the 8:00 hour of the morning show. The first featured Kelly talking to the hosts about the benefits of using cloth diapers, discussing how easy it is and showing off a couple of the diapers. And the second brought the moms and baby “models” out to talk about how cloth diapering works for them. The show producers became interested in doing this segment after hearing about our recent survey of cloth diapering attitudes.

All in all, this was a fantastic, educational segment that promoted the benefits of cloth diapers to a mainstream audience and hopefully got some people to make the switch! The best part was that we got to have some REAL LIVE Maine moms and babies appear alongside Kelly to show how cloth diapers can work in real life.A HUGE special thanks to our families – Mama Amber and Baby Shea, Mama Lauren and Baby Eamon and Mama Jessica and Baby Annalise – for volunteering and arriving so early in the morning with smiling babies in tow! See below for some photos of our fun morning!

If you are a “local” (i.e. live in or close to Portland, Maine), have an adorable cloth diapered baby (a given, right?!) and are interested in showing off your cute baby on TV… Listen up!

We are looking for approximately three Maine babies to appear with Kelly on Good Day Maine next week for a segment about cloth diapering! The station is interested in having their local cloth diaper expert (Kelly!!) talk to their viewers about modern cloth diapers, the history and how far they have come. This is a great opportunity to educate local moms and spread the word about cloth… but we need some models to show off the great new options in cloth diapers. Baby (and possibly mom!) will need to either sit, crawl around the set or be held by mom while Kelly explains the latest in cloth diapers in a 3-5 minute segment.

Here are the requirements: We are looking for families within close driving distance to Portland. Babies should be 9 months old or younger (in an attempt to manage them a bit). Families must be available on Wednesday, June 30 and all babies and mamas need to at the studio no later than 7:30 a.m.

As a thank you, the families we feature with us on air will receive a Kelly’s Closet gift card and three free diapers … and their cutie will be on TV!

Please contact Sarah@diapershops.com with your name, town, your baby’s name, baby’s birthdate and a photo by Thursday, June 24 if you are interested. We will be choosing the participants based on speed of response and availability… so email us now!
