What can I do to keep my FuzziBunz from leaking during car rides? I can't put them on DS when we travel because no matter how many inserts I put in, they leak when he's in his car seat.

I just started cloth diapering a month ago and am LOVING it. My question is what are the snaps on the inside of the bumwear diapers for?

Is there any harm in using 2 different detergent brands? My son stays w/ my mom during the day, who washes his diapers in Charlie's powder. I wash them w/ Allen's liquid at home.

I'd love to see a post about the fabrics used for making diapers- I have some old AIOs that have holes and cracks in the PUL fabric, so I'm thinking of cutting them apart and creating contoured prefolds for DD#3's newborn days... but what to put on the outside??? Maybe some flannel?

The Talley Family said...

Question: I've been cloth diapering my now 7 month old since she was about 3 months old. We use the BumGenius 3.0s. She keeps getting a terrible diaper rash. I strip the diapers often but can't seem to keep her little bum free from a rash. What else could be causing it? Thanks!

I'm just starting to cd, and am a bit overwhelmed at all of the choices. I'd like to know more about stuffing pockets, should I use hemp, or is microfiber better? Is it more of a personal preference? I already have some hemp soakers that were given to me, so I know will be using those. Just wondering if I should also invest in some microfiber as well.

Care instructions: what to do, and what NOT to do.

There are so many conflicting opinions online that it would be nice to see an official "This is what you should do and why" comment, especially as regards stripping, the use of vinegar and Oxyclean, and whether to machine or line dry.

Minnie said...

I feel like there is so much conflicting information regarding how to best care for your CD's. When I ordered my BG OS 3.0's from Cotton Babies they advised to use bleach once per month in the stripping process. Then I ordered 2 BG OS 3.0 from Kelly's Closet and I received a pamphlet with them advising to avoid bleach. So, which is it? I want these diapers to last as long as possible...hopefully even with my 2nd baby.

For sized pocket diapers, how long would you estimate they last? In other words, how many children do you think they could be used for? We're due with our first baby in February and I've sewn up a bunch of XS,S,M,L dipes, and bought a bunch too. Ideally we will be able to use them for the next couple babies too. Just was curious approx how many kids they'll last through.
Thanks!

Babies come in all shapes and sizes, and so do cloth diapers apparently. What diapers (I prefer pockets) would fit a long and thin baby? My friend has a short and chubby baby with very chubby thighs, what would work for her? I'd also like to know about cloth diapering an older child at night (2 to 4 years old).

Another topic for a post (and my comment for Tuesday): Any tips for generating support for cloth diapering from other family members (i.e. a spouse, grandparents)? My in-laws are supportive (they are trying to be more green), but my husband and my parents are skeptical about using cloth with our next child (due next month). I'd love to figure out a way to get them "on-board" with me on making this work...so that I don't have to keep a stash of disposables for the time when my husband has to change a diaper! (Argh!)

Wednesday comment and question/topic suggestion: Any advice on transitioning from cloth diapers to using the potty? Does using cloth diapers get kids more familiar with "feeling wet" than disposables? Does it encourage them to use the potty quicker? I have a 2.5 year old that has been in disposables but I am expecting and hoping to use cloth on the new baby. Would switching the toddler to cloth now make potty training easier or not make a big difference? Just curious. I'd love to get this kid potty trained asap and I'm so sick of buying dispoables! Thanks for any tips!

Thursday comment/question: How will online cloth diaper businesses be impacted by the "Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act" that is scheduled to take effect next month (Feb. 10)? Are business owners doing anything to prepare for the changes or is there anything we can do as customers to support our favorite companies/stores? I am nervous that some of my favorite online businesses (like Kelly's Closet, etc.) will have to shut down due to the new laws/regulations - and just at the moment when I'll be needing to purchase more diapers for my new baby! Additional info (to cut through the hype) would be helpful! (Or should I stock pile all the diapers I'll ever need before Feb. 10 rolls around???) Just curious!!! :)

personally, i get so confused about which diapers can withstand which treatments. it's a relief to just lay them all out in the sun to get rid of the stains. i haven't yet experimented to see if this little miracle also works on already-dried diapers.
