My son is 2, I think that just by cloth diapering him and having him see me cloth diaper his little sister (who is due in 4 weeks! yea!) he (and she) will grow up seeing tha we use reusable goods in our lives and have that become part of what they consider "normal"
And it must be working-he tried to put a CD on his Buzz Lightyear doll yesterday, he needed a little help of course, but it was cool to see him mimic my everyday activity!

I did not cloth my daughter but her younger brother is in cloth so she sees his all the time. None of dolls are diapered at the moment but I can imagine how fun she would think this was and it would help us in our quest to demonstrate cloth to everyone able to listen. :)
I only switched to cloth when I had my 4th so I explained to my older 2 how much sposies impact us. They also help diaper Rylen & see how easy it is! My oldest will even help unload the washer & hang the diaps up he thinks this is much cooler than "diaper duty" that my nephews have (they have to take all diaps to the outside trash can lol)

We just started using cloth, so I haven't had much of a chance to explain/talk to my daughter about it. We have talked about how much more comfortable they are than her old disposables and she calls them her comfy diapers.
This is such a great giveaway! My daughter's first birthday is on Thursday and this would be an awesome gift since hubby and I were thinking of getting her a doll.
Anyway, although DD is too young to learn why using cloth is important, as she gets older I plan on explaining to her that it is better for the earth, and more importantly, her! I hope what she takes from my hubby and I using cloth on her now, and us using cloth on any subsequent brothers and sisters leaves a positive impact on her. ANDINIC_83@YAHOO.COM

My 2 oldest girls thought it was funny when we switched to cloth for their baby sister. I explained to them a little bit of why we decided to do it, and now it's just normal. They help me fold the diapers. We usually have a prefold diaper pinned onto at least one of their baby dolls.
I think the doll diapers are absolutely adorable!!

I really wish someone would have given me more info on cloth diapering with my 2 oldest children. It's been one of the best changes we've made. I love nearly everything about it. Thank you for all the info you provide!!

My DS is still too young to understand, but he will learn through watching/experience especially since he will be the eldest child. I was practicing prefolds/snappis on his stuffed giraffe the other day :)

My 10 year old helps me with the diaper laundry and sometimes helps change the bambino's diaper. My 3 year old has cloth diapers on his Tigger and Potty Scotty dolls. As a family we try to live pretty frugally. When we used disposable diapers, my 10 yo saw how we used them and threw them away and spent money on more every time we went to the store. And now with cloth, we just wash and reuse. Better for our budget, better for the baby, better for the environment.

My oldest helps me wash the diapers. He loves to use the diaper sprayer (yes, it can get a little messy). He even takes out the dirty inserts (not something I taught him, he just wants to help). He also helps me put them in the wash. And he helps me change our youngest.

My little one isn't old enough to teach him about cloth diapers, but he certainly wears them. I intend to teach him to be aware of his impact on the earth, and cloth diapers are certainly a part of that.

I also think that just knowing that we do it makes the kid more likely to. I was first introduced to cloth diapering when my step mom did it with my brother and sister and now I do it. So I think my kids are likely to do it.
I never thought about it before. My oldest at 2 yrs knows the difference between cloth and disposables. Right now "teaching" is keeping her from throwing away the cloth in the disposable diaper bag and from trying to wash the disposables.

I am just beginning to use cloth diapers. My oldest is 2.5 (did disposables until recently) and in preparation for a second child I decided I wanted to go cloth. Hannah has helped me choose colors of diapers to order for the new baby (and herself since she has no desire to potty train yet) and LOVES deciding what color diaper to wear!

I want to teach my daughter that cloth diapers/wipes/etc. are the best choice there is. I want to teach her the value of saving money and helping the environment at the same time by doing this little thing of cloth diapering, I think it goes a long way!
I love all these stories of kids cloth diapering their dolls and diapers! What a great way to teach the lesson of reusable goods :)! I can't wait to teach my baby :)!
How adorable it would be for Lilian to get these! I hope I win! If I do I think I may use the gift card towards a diaper sprayer! I'm really envious of everyone who has one. I keep telling my husband the minute I get a positive pregnancy test for our second, I will be buying one!!

I put my kids to work helping me with the cloth diapers... one can change them the other two stuff and fold the.
Doll cloth diapers will be a great way to teach my daughter about cloth when she gets older. Right now my son learns about cloth by watching me cd his little sister.

My girls know I was interested in CD because we went from a place that recycled almost everything to an area with zero recycling. It was killing me putting so much in our trash can. The thought of throwing away sooo many diapers was overwhelming!
We were all screeching when I found a recycling center in our area! My girls enjoy putting the recycles in the bins and CD just makes sense to them!
I'm going to teach my kids to be aware when they are throwing anything away, and help them learn to think about deciding to reuse something, recycle it, or toss it. Cloth diapering can be second nature for them, just like recycling cardboard and paper is for me due to my "Recycle, Reduce, Reuse" elementary school training. :)

When we have baby # DD will probably be about 3 (she is 17 mo. now & we plan on trying in December) So, at that age she will be much more aware of the diapers that I'm putting on the new baby. I will even let her pick out colors for the baby to wear.

Even at 7 months old, Grace is already starting to be active in the laundering process. She loves to "help" by pushing over my stacks of diapers as I launder them. Before too long I'll be able to teach her that her cloth diapers are "special" and different than disposables.

My boys are too young to really understand the advantage of cloth diapers. My oldest is almost three, and does know that I use cloth - he loves to choose which diaper I put on his little brother at changing time.

post two... let them pick out what diaper they want, my six month old and 2 yo love doing this.

My older son helped pick out the color of his little bro's dipes when we ordered them to help him feel involved.
We try to talk to our children about why we use cloth diapers. And, in general, teach them about creating less waste, recycling, etc. I'm getting some good ideas about having the kids help with putting them together, away in drawers, etc. from other responses! It's great!

I let my daughters pick out which diapers they will wear for naps and bedtime (they are both PT during the day! Wahoo!) and when DD#3 is born in a few weeks, I'll let them help me pick out her diapers - and change them if they want to! (Certainly not going to say no to someone else changing a diaper around here!) They love their soft diapers- and they see their momma talk them up everywhere we go and to everyone we know! Teaching by walking the walk and talking the talk... no better way!
My older daughter sees me changing my younger daughter's diaper. We use mostly cloth with some disposable and she knows the difference. I think that the doll diapers are so cute and they would help teach her too.

Additionally my son helps me fold the diapers. I think this helps it be very prominent in his mind that we use cloth.
I love how the doll diapers help kids learn "hands on" about cloth diapers! I think it's a great way to teach about cloth!

I'm going to go get some cloth doll diapers. My girls ofcourse want to diaper their babies and usually end up using disposables, which totally wastes them as the sticky wears out quickly. They would be great for teaching them about cloth.

My preschooler has been really interested in our recent switch to cloth diapers. He asks questions about them all the time and enjoys helping me when the diaper laundry is finished washing/drying. While he doesn't really play with dolls, I look forward to playing dolls with my almost 1 year old girl.

we are teaching our son about the environment and the benefits of cloth diapers. it's just the "right" thing to do.
in fact, i bought ONE package of 7th generation (for when the baby is just born- i know, i know!!) and he totally questioned me as to why i would buy those since they "aren't any good"!!! oops.

another way I plan to help teach my daughter about cloth diapers is that when we have another little one come along, when we do diaper changes I can teach her about all the different cloth diapers we use as we diaper her little brother or sister

The stategies I use to help my kids know their empactis that I lead by example. WE recycle and we have the boys put the bottles in the bin, or the paper, etc. This year the boys and I will be planting a garden to grow our food, show them that we can have a part in nature.

I wasn't sure where I wanted to post or comment this. My new Shape Mag.(has Juile louis-drifus, Elaine from sienfield on the cover) talks about ways to go Green and it talks about cloth diapers and why NOT to go that route. My fav quote goes something like," what bearly eyed parent has time to wash diapers". I have yet to concieve my 1st child, but my husband and I have decieded to use cloth when the time comes. I was so mad and just thought to share.

I have never used cloth so my son has no idea. If we were to win I know he would be all about using the little ones on his cookie monster and monkey dolls.
My daughter is only an infant, but will grow up only knowing cloth! If we ever have another child (ugh...haha) that baby would be cloth diapered, too, so Nora would have first hand experience of it when she was a little older.

So you have made me think for answers to this question. But My next answer is that I talk about cloth diapers to other Mom's (maybe a little too passionately but oh well) And some have even switched over. This I think will influence my daughter in the future versus right now since she is only a year and a half.

I missed yesterday's comment but was thinking about it all day. I have boys and for some reason never really talked to them about the whole cloth diaper reasoning. Maybe it's because they don't play with dolls and that specific opening wasn't there. But then yesterday I got thinking about the movie WALL-E, which is one of my oldest sons favorite movies. The premise of the movie is that the Earth is covered with so much trash everyone must leave Earth and live in space. Well, I thought, what a great opening to start to share one of the many reasons why we use cloth diapers with my son. I will keep you posted on how it goes.
