We recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, cans, glass, etc. and try to re-use or buy used things and clothes, as much as we can.

Anonymous said...

I use Bare Naked Cleaners to clean or make my own sometimes.

Anonymous said...

We hang dry our stuff either inside on hangers if its cloudy/raining or on the clothes line for sunshine.

Cecile said...

We try not to use too much water by taking short showers, not flushing every time someone goes peepee in the toilet (yeah, I know), collect the cold water that is warming up before we step in the shower (to use for plants, for play, for cleaning, etc), we do not wash the car unless we go to a wedding or something, etc.

Cecile said...

We hang dry clothes, let the dishes air dry in the dishwasher.

hosiewosie said...

we always have old water left in cups we never finish drinking (don't know why we can't finish it) but I save it in a big jug to water plants

green idea #2: we use "green" skincare whenever we can, either by supporting natural companies or just repurposing common household stuff. My favorite is olive oil for the baby's diaper rashes.

Sara said...

Green Home: We reuse shopping bags.

Sara in Seattle said...

green idea #3: here in Seattle we are big recyclers. Now we are even allowed to put food waste into our yardwaste bins. I never got into making my own compost, but this is an easy way to be "green" with my food disposables.

Sara in Seattle said...

green idea #4: breastfeeding! No wasted formula containers or manufacturing for us :)

Sara said...

Green Home: we don't use wrapping paper. We either use the comics from the newspaper or bags that can be reused

Sara in Seattle said...

green idea #5: we try to borrow and loan out baby stuff whenever possible. So much of it is used for only a short time, it doesn't make sense for all of us to buy our own stuff individually. Several items have been shared now by family and friends.

Sara in Seattle said...

Green idea #6: I'm an avid reader, but now instead of purchasing all our books we either use paperbackswap or the library. This creates less waste because more books aren't being created, and the ones we have are all being used multiple times.

Sara said...

Green Home: We pay all of our bills online

Sara in Seattle said...

green idea #7: the number one way we've reduced our carbon footprint is by moving in with my parents. With two families sharing one house, we are using far less resources in gas, electricity, water, and overall space.

Another green task for us is that we use cloth bags for all our shopping. The Envirosax bags are AWESOME!

We use natural cleaners and they seriously are so much better than the toxic stuff!

Sara in Seattle said...

green task: we use reusable grocery and book sacks

Sara in Seattle said...

green task: I save up all my laundry until I have very full loads... yes, it's also because I am lazy, but it's better for the environment

Sara in Seattle said...

green task: we use water bottles and have also eliminated the use of paper plates from our house

Sara in Seattle said...

still waiting to hear if prefolds count, but in the meantime, since I am a green diaper nut (I only buy gender-neutral so I can use for subsequent babies no matter what), I have 23 other green diapers/covers (3 Thirsties celery covers--one XS, one S, one M; 6 Thirsties Fab Fitteds in celery--one M, 5 smalls; 3 BG AIO organics; 7 BG AIOs in medium; and 4 Kissaluv 0s).
