Mission Organization: Version 2.0

For well over a year, I had the perfect organizational system for my cloth diapers. I used a kids storage bin that I bought at a local big box store that easily compartmentalized the diapers by type, accessories etc. I loved the way it looked sitting in the nursery, and it was easy to find what I needed at changing time.

All was working well with this system until earlier this week when we transitioned Brendan from his crib (which he recently learned to climb out of) into a toddler bed. Now that he had the freedom to easily crawl in and out of bed in the evening, it only took two nights to discover that he could now play in his room at bedtime before curling up to go to sleep. When I walked into his room to check on him before I headed to bed, I saw that he had completely emptied all of the bins, and there was a nice pile of fluff in the middle of the floor. (Thank goodness most of his stash was sitting in the laundry room after a day of fluff wash!)

Setting aside my personal convenience at diaper changing time, I moved the bin, along with all the diapers, into his closet where he was unable to get to them. I then began to brainstorm ideas for a new organizational system, finally deciding that it was time for another trip to the big box store to find a solution. I wanted something that I could attach to the wall above the dresser that I use as a changing table, but it also had to look nice. I don’t mind restocking the diapers each day, just as long as I can have a days worth of diapers within arms reach at changing time. This is what I came up with:

While I miss that old kids toy bin, I’m sure it will come in handy in the boys playroom doing what it was originally designed to do – hold toys.

I love it, I love it, I love it!!! I sooo need something like this! It would be so much easier than the book shelf I'm using for only cloth!

Oh I love your old storage solution for diapers. That would have been perfect for our kiddos. Now they are all over the place and ripping stuff off of shelves. The new storage baskets on the wall are very cute.

Wow, that is so fantastically cute!! I want to copy your idea, but we don't use a changing table... our diapers are just in a shelf of the book shelves

That's a brilliant idea! I've been looking for a good solution since my daughter's room is so small. Wall storage: why didn't I think of that? Oh well, so glad you did!

We just bought the first set you had yesterday at Lowe's! We put it in her closet, love all the bins!
Your new solution is cute too, love the baskets.

Love it! The old system even looks great. I may try that for my son. And then turn them into a toy shelf when he's older. And I do like your new system. Mine are all in drawers right now, but a basket might be handy.

I wish for that convinence of the storage bins, but with young ones on the loose it is hard. Our solution has been the top drawer of a storage bin of toys. After a couple times of the drawer being dumped and my boys having to pick the mess up (they are 3 and 4) amazing they don't do it anymore.

I'm in total panic mode now. Great post, but it now has been freaking out over this problem. I had never given this any thought, but I'm sure once my son is in a bed, he will be all into his fluff (that currently sits on the open shelves of his change table). Great solution! I might have to steal the idea :)

I love both options, an awesome idea for a mom new to cloth diapering that doesn't know WHAT to do with the 'stuff'! I used a rotation of 2 baskets on the shelf of our changing table and that worked out well, other people used a dresser and the drawers of it to sort them out and that worked, too!

I am such a dork but I SO love these organizational posts! I just bought three new bins to keep my daughter's diapers in (she's almost 8m, so she can't get them yet), and I'm going to be bummed when I have to move to a drawer system like I do for my toddler son (who, like yours, would make a mess of the bins!)...
