Organizing our Cloth Stash

We now have 2 little ones in cloth diapers, so it has become more important to keep it all organized. Our 16 month old son and 2 month old daughter are both using cloth diapers. Our daughter is using the FuzziBunz one size diapers, same ones we originally purchased for our son. Our son is in our “everything else” stash. Overtime we have slowly acquired diapers of many other brands including: Kawaii, Rumparooz, itti bitti, bum Genius, Happy Heinys and Grovia. Keeping our daughter in one brand and our son in the others it keeps it easy to not mix them up. Not that it would be hard to distinguish the size of the diapers to tell them apart, but I would hate to be in the middle of a diaper change and find out that the last diaper in the drawer is the other child’s. It is also fairly easy to keep things separate because we wash them as separate loads. Which also keeps things easy for prepping the diapers.

Another part of our cloth diaper organization is keeping their cloth wipes separated. Our son has a big stack of cloth wipes and our daughter has her own. Some of them are boy/girl colors and designs but most of them are neutral. Keeping these organized separately helps to ensure we don’t end up running out of diapers in one child's room, while the rest of the wipes are in the other child's room, where they might be sleeping. The wipes are soaked in a wipe solution, we have used Honey Chunks in the past and we are about to try Monkey Butt Soap Bits because it has more scent options. Our method of maintaining the wipe warmer at least ¼ full so that we never run out came from a little trial and error from our neighbor. We convinced our neighbor to cloth diaper and she convinced us to use cloth wipes. She noticed that if she prepped more than a couple of days worth of wipes they would start to smell like mildew. We figure out approximately how many wipes we use in 2-3 days and then when the warmer gets low we remove the remaining wipes fill the warmer with fresh wipes and place those remaining wipes back in the warmer to be used first. That way no wipe is in the warmer for more than 3 days and we avoid the mildew smell. Having two kids in cloth diapers is a lot more work than one and keeping things organized is the key. Without the organization system we use we would likely become frustrated and give up on cloth diapering. If you are a parent with one child in cloth and will soon have the second, use our tips and come up with a system that works for you and don’t give up.
