Product Focus: Rocky Mountain

My name is Tracie Whittemore, I am a WAHM of a Aurora (6) and Winter (8 months). I have been in the WAHM world since 2004. I fell in LOVE with cloth diapers when my oldest was 7 months old. I am also proud to say that my youngest has only been in cloth diapers, since day one! When I found out I was expecting, I couldn't wait to start the cloth addiction again. AnyonePhotobucket reading this knows that it is an addiction and if you are just getting into cloth diapers now, then this is your warning of the addiction to come! That is why last year I started manufacturing my own line of diapers. I found inspiration literally in my own backyard. I named my diapers after the beautiful mountain range we call home. This picture was taken from down our street, you can really see how beautiful they really are. For me the Rocky Mountains represents how magnificent our earth is, cloth diapering helps protect our earth, it was the perfect name.

When I started brainstorming ideas for a new diaper, I wanted something that would grow with my baby, but still look like a sized diaper. My first pattern was made at 2 in the morning with my best friend at my side with the end result being a diaper pattern we drew on kids birthday wrapping paper! I had a long way to go :) My insight came from the ease of adjustable waist jeans; however, I improved on this design by utilizing simple snaps, instead of buttons. The snap system makes it Photobucketmuch easier to find the right adjustment for an even fit. The end result was a diaper that is affordable, yet still made of quality materials and a design that will accommodate the variety of shapes and sizes of growing babies.

Rocky Mountain diapers are a trim one-size pocket diaper without the typical one-size look. That is because instead of confusing, or cumbersome snaps on the front of the diaper, I have hidden the snaps inside the leg elastic of the diaper. It has a series of snaps that will adjust to fit almost any baby, from tiny newborns to a typical sized toddler. These snaps only need adjusted when your baby needs a larger size. To adjust, lightly pull on the elastic until you get the size you desire and snap it into place with a single snap on each side. You only need to adjust again when your baby grows.

Rocky Mountain Diapers are made in the USA of high quality PUL on the outside, and beautiful complimentary colored suede cloth on inside to keep your baby dry. They are also dad and babysitter friendly, once they are stuffed, they go on by simply wrapping it around the baby and snapping shut. With the trim fit, baby can wear them under virtually any type of clothing, even jeans. Rocky Mountain diapers come in a variety of color combinations. They have adorable leg gathers that also prevent leaking, and no messy snaps in front to bulk up the diaper or design. I am so proud of this diaper and even more thrilled that one of the web's most respected stores, Kelly's Closet, is carrying them!

I love the idea of hidden snaps! I would love to try them out! I'm currently using OS BGs, but am expecting this summer, so I'm not sure how inconvenient the front snaps will be.

This sounds like a great diaper, and I can't wait to try it! It does sound like it would be a lot less bulky than a typical one-size diaper!

Yay! I love the stories behind the diapers. Her DD's names are too adorable.

I purchased one of these diapers a few weeks ago. I have not used it on DD yet because I'm waiting until I have a few more new items to wash all together (more cost effective). I did play around with the hidden snap adjustments and I feel that I got the hang of it in a "snap". LOL It's adorable and I can't wait to actually try it on my DD.

QUESTION: I had an extra BG terry insert on hand...would this be good to use w/ the diaper or is there an insert designed just for the Rocky Mountians?

Congrats on your diapers! Hidden adjustments are my favorite. I hope that I win so that I can try these out.

Wow- this diaper sounds awesome! Looks like I'll need to feed my addiction a little more by buying some of these to try out.

I also love reading the story behind how the diapers to be!!

I thoroughly enjoy learning about each "brand." It's refreshing to know there's truly a real person, especially a mom, behind all this. It's not just some mass produced product - these are cloth diapers made and sold with love! =)

Amanda: The BG insert should work really well... (just fold it to fit the diaper accordingly). There is no specific insert designed for this diaper (which I personally prefer as I like other materials for my inserts - such as prefolds or hemp or bamboo)...

I love your story! Don't the greatest ideas come at 2 in the morning? I'm eager to try a one size that is trim without the complicated snap system! Thanks for making these!

It sounds like a wonderful product. I really like the way it looks too. Thanks for the info.

I have got to try these. I have always had problems with my chunky monkey plus cloth diapers fitting into any pants but stretch pants. I would love to put her in some adorable jeans, but every cloth diaper I have tried has always been too bulky. And I love the stories behind the diapers. I love knowing that buying cloth diapers means, a lot of times, that I a supporting a WAHM, not some mega-company like with disposables!

I also love the idea of hidden snaps! It def sounds like a great diap! What a great product spotlight!

What a neat idea to hide the snaps! I'd love to see these in action. I also love to hear the stories behind the diapers. It is so inspiring to learn that a lot of the cloth diapers we all love are the brainchild of "regular" moms like us! Thanks for sharing!

I ordered my first Rocky Mountain Diaper on Saturday from Kelly's Closet. I can't wait to receive it and see if it truly is trimmer fitting. The one thing I miss about disposables (after using them with my first 3 children)is the trim fit. Everything else about cloth diapers I am loving after switching from disposables on my 1 month old daughter (our 4th child).

I forgot to mention it in my last comment, but thank you Tracie for giving away the 6 diapers! I would love to be the winner, but I'm sure it will be a blessing to whoever wins them!!!

I LOVE the fact that they are made in the US!!!

I like the suedecloth inner. While some people may dislike it, I love it and haven't found many diapers that feature it. I would love to feel one of these.

I am in love with this diaper, for all the reasons she states! The snaps are super easy to adjust, the colors are super cute, it is really trim, and I have yet to have a leak! Finally a diaper I can get my husband to use, since I do all the work with the stuffing and he just puts them on! I also really love the story and name of this diaper!

I too, have cloth diaper addiction! How inventive of Tracie! I hope to try a Rocky Mountain Diaper soon.

I love the photo of their mountain.

Hi Amanda,
You can certainly use a BumGenius os insert inside the Rocky Mtn. In fact this is what we use inside ours!

Rachael said...

I LOVE the hidden snaps, great idea! Trim fit is great, too.. It'd be nice to not have to buy pants a size too big to fit over my DD's diaper booty! Can't wait to try these!

seems like a great innovative design!

I'm so excited to try these diapers. Especially since one of the main reasons for creating them was to make a trimmer diaper. I really miss my kids' little jeans-small price to pay for healty bums, I know, but I can't help missing them.

My family is from Nashville which makes me love the name even more. The mountains are so beautiful. I DO plan to try the diapers just as soon as I can afford them, LOL. What beautiful names you have for your daughters! So glad to hear your story.

I love the suedecloth lining of BG's so I bet I would like this diaper too.

I love the idea of a OS diaper that is all snaps! And I love your color combos, especially the darker inside colors, having all white insides even gets boring with the many different outside colors.

Carol said...

Such a great idea to hide the snaps inside! I can't wait to try one.

Katrina said...

I like the idea of the hidden snaps too. If I didn't have enough OS diapers (according to DH) I would def. buy one to try out.

I love the ingenuity of using whatever is on hand. Child's wrapping paper is such a good resource even if it was just for mapping out an idea! Thanks for the info and for the diaper giveaway! I can't wait to try these diapers, especially if I win!

Your diapers sound so neat, I may just have to try one, or maybe six if I win Fluff Friday! That would be great!

I am so excited to try this diaper. I use BG's and prefolds now but am trying to conceive so hopefully I can purchase a few of these to help round out my stash!

I liked reading about your family and why you started making your own diapers. I understand the diaper obsession. You have to make it fun!

It's really great that this company started as a WAHM business. More power to the mommies! It inspires me to start my own business...

It took me a few tries to get the snap thing working (thanks Serena!)Since DD is in daycare, I'll wait till the weekend to try it out.

Question: Has anyone used this as a nighttime diaper? If so, will the BG 1-size and the superdoo fit? Basically, what combo of inserts work best for overnight (heavy wetter)?

SarahMcD said...

I ordered one of these to try from Kelly's Closet, and after using it for a couple days I think it is awesome! We tried it on a one month old, my 14 month old, and my 3 year old. I can't believe how trim these are for a one size, and the size range is amazing. Those of you with little newborns, these adjust really tiny! I've always been torn about what diaper to get for my expectant friends to try out, because each diaper I've tried has had it's pros and cons, but this one is perfect!!! Very nice materials, and cute colors to boot!

I want to try these! I love the idea of hidden adjustments. The snaps showing on my BGs are my least favorite part of the diaper.

My little person is just about to move to the next size and all of the one sizes have just been too bulky, I am going to purchase one of these and see if they cut down on any of that!

I love that these are made in the USA-- I've been trying hard to buy more things here, and I'm really surprised by how hard it's been.

I just get excited when I read about WAHMs and their wonderful, useful creations!

Rocky Mountain Dipes look like something I'm definitely going to have to try out!

I use prefolds and covers, and have tried 1 pocket diaper, but personally I just think that diapers that AREN'T a one-size are just not an option for me. If I'm going to buy cloth and spend good $ on it, I want it to last throughout my child-rearing years!

Awesome diapers Tracie!

I never realized that was how these adjusted. I love that idea!!!positively brilliant.
Can't tell you how much I wish snapdragon's fluffies had that much adjustability in the legs, cuz he has chicken legs!
