I would really like to win this weeks give away. My son does not get rashes from his "thick skin" so I do not have to deal with them. Also, I have never used cloth. I cant afford the start up so I am hoping to win one of these contests so I can start.

So I went and bragged that we hadn't had any rashes and and got one. UGH!!! So, I got Desitin but of course that can't touch my diapers. So, I bought cheap reusable liners (as in 20 for $10) at Babies R Us and put those in between her and the diapers.

Another thing I use to keep rashes at bay is the Cheeky Clean Diaper Area Cleanser (by Gentle Care)...I spritz it directly on my DD's bottom after a smelly diaper to freshen her skin and leave it free of bacteria.
I'm dying to try the GroBaby system!

You know, I wonder if parents who use disposables really do have to deal with more diaper rash, as I've heard. I'd love to see a study on this, or some more information ...

I use regular diaper cream on my little one's bum. Usually, I only put it on at night (unless it's really bad). Tonight we had to put some Butt Paste on his tush. Poor kid didn't poop at all the other day and made up for it today!

I used to use the creams with the ingredient zinc in it (Desitin, etc.) They never worked on my baby, which is good I guess since you can't use them with cloth diapers!
I haven't had much diaper rash but for the few times that my DD had it I used the Aveeno diaper cream and that seemed to clear it up.

The only times I wondered if my little guy was possibly developing a diaper rash I would try to let him go naked as much as possible. If we couldn't do that then I would put in in a prefold or fitted without a cover (or with wool for naps) to maximize circulation to his bum!
have dealt with diaper rashes since you started cloth diapering your baby? What have you done? What creams have you used?
yes we have had rashes , we used NE better butter cream and TTO/Lav free bum stick , as well as gold bond baby powder. :)

Now that we have actually had a diaper rash I am considering ordering some safe with cloth diapers creams. I figure I should have some in the house. For next time - so I don't need to be messing with these ridiculous liners.

We haven't had any diaper rashes yet, but my little guy is only 10wks old. In the past, with my other two, I used cornstarch and it almost always worked. I didn't cloth diaper them though, so I wonder if that's safe to do with CD's? We also used creams when needed. I have some fleece ready to use as liners though, if we do need to use any creams.

We truly have not had much trouble with diaper rash since we have started CD'ing (2 times I think) and he is 10 months. When we did, I just cut up some soft fleece strips of material to put in each diaper. That kept the wet away from his bum and the rash cream off his diapers. I use Burt's bee's.

I deal with occasional diaper rashes by either using Method or California baby diaper cream, more frequent changes, and some naked bum time.
We still get rashes from time to time since using cloth diapers and we mainly use Northern Essence and also Aveeno. I use a flushable liner with the Aveeno to prevent staining.

Sadly, we've dealt with rashes by putting on the occasional 'sposie with some Balmex. It does the trick, and I'm too afraid to use any sort of cream with my bumGenius diapers.

We recentl battled a bad rash, but then we found out it was a yeast infection so we had to get a prescription cream. I think it was called Nystatin. I was paranoid about it ruining my diapers, so I switched to sposies during that time (it was a long two weeks!)

Diaper rash was one reason we switched to cloth diapers. My daughter has had a few since, but not nearly like they were with disposable dipes. I like the California Baby calming diaper rash cream. It works great, and smells good. We have recently started using cloth wipes, and have not had any rashes since!

Diaper rash is almost 100% better today. I was getting sick of the sposies after a few changes, so I put him in some prefolds without a cover to let him air out. He also had LOTS of nakey time. I'm so happy it's cleared up, I know it can't be comfortable!

The only thing that has ever worked on my baby is Aquaphor. When she was in disposables she would get bad diaper rashes and that would do the trick.
Since she's been on cloth diapers she hasn't gotten bad diaper rash again, accept for when she had a bout of diarrhea! I occasionally still use the aquaphor if I see her start to get red, but I'm not sure how well it works with cloth diapers.
We use Northern Essence products now - after trying dozens of other products and spending tons of $$$. They work perfectly.

We haven't really had any diaper rashes.. but we used to use disposables at night and sometimes for outings and switched brands. My babe developed a contact dermatitis (happened to have it at the dr). It was bad and the only thing that helped was Lansinoh. See disposables are icky!!! We never tried any of the great stuff at Kelly's closet, b/c we needed something right away that we could get at the store!

We haven't had much in the way of diaper rashes....the few times that I've used something I used Burt's Bees diaper cream and put my daughter in a pre-fold just in case the cream left residue....One time I let her run around in just a prefold or fitted and changed it the minute she was wet to prevent more irritation.

Ugh. Diaper rash - my 11 month old has almost no problems in cloth - nothing that doesn't clear up with a little air. My toddler, on the other hand, has a persistant, recurring diaper rash that I can NOT figure out. We've tried extra air, tea tree oil in his bath (that seems to help sometimes), Arbonne diaper cream, Desitin, Calmoseptine... I don't remember what else. When we use creams we either use a flushable liner to protect the diaper, or switch to disposables. I'm reading the comments here for more ideas!
I don't have a blog yet - my email is musicmoments@iw.net.
I have been cloth diapering for a month and a half and my daughter has had less trouble with diaper rash since we began using cloth. With disposables, her skin seemed to be irritated with the perfumes and chemicals in the diapers. Since using cloth, I only have trouble if I don't realize she had a dirty diaper and she sits in it too long. Then I simply be sure to use a diaper with a fleece liner to keep her bottom dry and also change her a little more frequently. So, far I have not needed to use any creams!

The only rashes we've encountered since starting with cloth were actually the result of using a sposie here and there! I love the Northern Essence products to help clear up a rash while using cloth dipes.

Startng out with CD, we had a little problem with diaper rash. I had left the doubler out & used it as a liner. We had actually used regular diaper cream & back to disposables. Tried a sample of Northern Essence Lav Free and love the smell & works great. Thanks to all the help & fast response of the CD whisperers when we did have the rash! Now we are totally CDs. No more problems or disposable!

I have used disposables with Desitin when we have had a diaper rash.
I have also laid baby naked in the sun for a little bit with a protective cloth underneath which helps with the rash.
Now I'm thinking Northern Essence will be a great cream to try with the cloth diapers!
We haven't had any issues with rashes since switching to cloth. However, these products look interesting and definitely would be useful in the future.

I have not had any diaper rashes with cloth diapers. My 10 month old got one when we were on vacation and used disposables and within a day of being back in cloth, it went away.
For rashes, I use the usual drugstore variety rash cream. I just put a flannel liner (same things I use for wipes) on the diaper. Never had a problem, even in my pockets! MIL used to use a disposable with cream when she was watching the babe while I was at school and the rash never cleared as fast as it does when I have to occasionally use cream with the cloth. Score yet another for cloth!

Other rash tips - well I have been letting her go diaper free as much as possible. This really helps. Doing that I don't really need the cream so much. Which is great!!! I am so glad to not use those creams you can buy at the pharmacy.

Since I have started CDing my son has gotten a diaper rash, it happened the day I put a disposable on him when I was going to run errands (I don't have a wet bag for when I'm out and about). When I got home I put him in a PF and it was better by the next diaper change! I'm getting a wet bag so it won't happen again!

For Tuesday's comment, I have also tried using Arbonne's baby diaper rash ointment but think that, while it may be largely natural, it contains elements that clog diapers. So use caution when trying that! Thankfully my daughter, C, has only had one small rash with cloth and it went away quickly

I have recently tried the Magic Stick and really like it (esp that I don't have to get my hands covered in diaper rash cream!)
Andy's diaper rash cleared up when we switched to cloth. Before cloth it was a nightmare, constant rash. We found Welleda Baby worked the best for us. (That was 9 months ago) Just recently he got a fungal rash that for the life of us we could not get rid of. He went to the doctor 3 times for it and had bleeding ulcers because of it. He spent most of his time out of his diaper (my poor carpet) and used ever cream on the planet, both prescription and otc. The best thing we found for easing the symptoms were oatmeal baths. I blended normal instant oats and tossed about 1/2 cup in the tub. He was better so much quicker!!

My daughter started getting mild diaper rash every time she pooped when she was 2 months old. I first used the typical zinc oxide creams until I discovered the Magic Stick. I now us the Magic Stick everyday and no longer have a problem with diaper rash! I was planning to try Northern Essence salve next time we run out of Magic Stick because of all the good reviews.

Rashes are one of the reasons I think everyone should own at least a few prefolds. The minute my baby's bottom starts to turn red, I find I can clear it quickly by diapering her just in a prefold (no cover) and letting her play like that in the house. The prefolds allow a bit more air to circulate, and they also let me know the minute she's wet so that I can change her promptly. Plus if I am forced to use a cream, I'd rather have it be on my hearty (and cheap!) prefolds than on my expensive diapers.
