First, I would find out WHO gave me such a silly gift, because everyone I know KNOWS I am using cloth.

Second, I would probaly try to sell them on kijiji or facebook or something because I have a 3month old son and a mortgage and ei(mat leave pay) just doesn't CUT it!

I might stash a few for us just in case and then the rest I would donate to a couple of local organizations that help out teen and mothers in need.

If i received any disposable diapers i would donate to The chapel on base, for military families who are in need of them. They would not touch my babies bottoms.

Would I be disqualified if I said I would use the diapers, at least some of them? Sad but true - at least I am honest.

And I am a follower - I'm learning the trade so I can do cloth with the next little one. My 18 month old is wearing training pants and is nearly potty trained.

I would donate them to the local women's shelter or Teen Crisis Pregnancy center. I LOVE using clothdiapers and have all the diapers I need to get through potty training so I don't need them. :)

There are some 3rd world countries that have orphanages so desperate for diapers, they actually wash out and reuse disposable diapers. To me, that is somebody in need. It would be much better if they had cloth, but I really think they would appreciate any donation. That's where I would send them.

500 disposables? 300 or so are going to some local Military mommas. 100 would go to the local church. the last 100? They'd be dissected by my family and local school kids... "kids, parents don't let they're kids grow up to use disposables... and THIS is why."

McGrath Five said...

Hmmm... I would keep some for my stash that I send with my kids when they go to any other family member's house since they are 'not comfortable' with having to use a cloth diaper. Didn't they all grow up with cloth diapers??? LOL And then I would give to my friends with little ones and donate the rest to my church.

And a stash to my best friend who is about to stay home with her 2 in dipes, her hubby is a teacher. And the rest to a crisis pregnancy center....maybe I'd swipe a couple to extend my wash days! :)

Well, I'm from Alaska (I live in vegas now) and there are a lot of very poor families out in the bush and up in the villages. A lot of Alaskan Native mothers out in the remote villages have next to nothing for their kids and as much as I would love to convert the world to cloth, I would donate those diapers to them. It's hard enough to get into town to buy diapers and supplies when your paying hundreds of dollars of fuel for your snowmobile or the one good working vehicle in the village. Plus most families recycle and burn their paper/plastics in their wood stoves and incinerators out there in the villages so they wouldn't end up in a land fill.

Thats what I would do with them

Anonymous said...

Oh and I am a follower and a FB fan.

Kristen said...

Hmmm, I am embarrassed to say, I'd keep some for when my baby has to be cared for while I work. Still haven't figured out arrangements, and the daycares I looked into won't use cloth. Neither will my MIL! The majority of the diapers I would donate to someone in need. We have a free classifieds site on the local news website and there are always postings begging for help because someone is expecting a baby and lost their job. I'd want to check them out and make sure it was legit somehow, because I'd want to give them to someone who REALLY was in need. Of course, it is funny how specific those ads are... please give me this, but in this color, and 'sposies, NOT cloth blah blah, and a stroller, but it MUST be a jogger. Sometimes it annoys me, because I'm a bad person I guess! But beggers shouldn't be picky, right?

Thanks for the chance!

I would give them friends or family members. I am the only one by far willing to use cloth diapers. I don't hate disposables, I used them on my first child, I just think it is time for me to do my part for the environment, and save a little extra on the side, plus cloth is soooo much cuter.

I would donate the diapers to our local children & youth agency. They frequently get babies born into low income families with drug addiction, etc., and family members step up to help care for them. If I did not donate them to there, the other option would be our domestic violence shelter which is always in need or check with our local Children's Hospital because many terminally or chronically ill babies/toddlers are there that have enough medical bills when discharged as is that diapers would be a great present. I would have to include information on cloth diapers though, bc I am that much in love with them!!
