What I’ve Learned the Most

In honor of our recent nomination for the Blog Luxe: Blog I’ve Learned the Most From award – I thought it only befitting to write about what I’ve learned the most from cloth diapering.

I’ve learned…

Cloth diapering is a BLAST! I never imagined when I embarked on my cloth diapering journey that I would have as much fun as I have. Of course my drive and passion landed me an awesome gig working to help bring cloth diapering success to others!

How to appreciate the “good old-fashioned” way of doing things. Hanging diapers (and laundry) out in the sun to dry is truly a heart warming and natural feeling; it’s also a wholesome sign to see diapers and laundry swaying in the crisp breeze.

The sun provides more than just warmth but does wonders for killing bacteria, whitening and brightening as well as removing stains. My husbands dress shirts and undershirts look amazingly new again; I have even resuscitated a few of the kids clothes too!

How to appreciate diaper changes and make the most of them, rather than considering them a chore as I used to when we used disposables. I’ve learned to use cloth diapers as a way to teach my children how to live and appreciate a more natural, healthy lifestyle as opposed to the disposable, convenience-based society we live in. Reduce. Recycle. Reuse.

You can teach an old dog new tricks. My family all know how to change a disposable diaper… geez, my mom even knows how to use the prefolds and pins (although she insists on not doing it). However, after enlisting the troops one by one – I’ve got them on board with cloth diapers. Here’s my sister after she changed her first cloth diaper!

Most importantly, I’ve learned there are so many amazing moms and dads out there looking to do the right thing and just looking to connect with someone to help figure it all out. I value being able to help people and look forward to continuing to provide all the help and support I can; one cloth diapered bum at a time!

What a great post!!! Cloth Diapering certainly does set the wheels in motion for all the other stuff doesn't it?

And Serena, we thank you for all the great posts you write for The Cloth Diaper Whisperer blog that we all can learn so much from.

Also I envy your full sun backyard with your clothes line. I have a very shaded yard. I still have a line where I hang my dipes but probably don't get the stain fighting power I would get with a more sunny yard.

I love that you love hanging them out in the sun on the line. I love the smell of sundried laundry, the crispness of it, the way the towels are a little less soft but seem more absorbant. I love the way a line dried blanket feels and smells. Its one of my secret favorites.

I too have taught several family members to "deal" with cloth as they put it. And also have some that just don't want to, despite knowing how. :)

Oh how, I'll be glad when we move and I can get my line back!

What a great photo of the diapers on the line!

I have a clothes line in the laundry room but now I'm thinking I need to put on up outside.

Wow that is a lot of diapers in the first picture! And all organized into colors...my diaper laundry never looks that good =)

I have learned so many things from starting cloth, too!

You sound just like me. I've never thought of ways I could help better the environment until I started using cloth diapers. Now I want to use mama cloth, cloth paper towels... and I want to convert everyone I know!

Thanks for the great post!

I love your backyard cloths line. We rent and are not allowed to run a cloths line so I have to miss the sunshine and I SO wish I could take advantage of this natural method!

I think your sis did a way better job on her first cloth diaper than I did. :)

Loved this post and the picture of your dipes on the line! So much so that I went out and bought a new clothesline yesterday morning just so I could hang my diapers on it (I've been using a folding drying rack). LOVE IT!

I love your backyard close line, someday I can do it too.

This is great. I'm still just preparing to cloth diaper, but it's great to see how much there is to learn. (I loves the dipes on the line!)

Wonderful post! I agree that cloth diapering is a blast. Although my neighbors think I am crazy for cloth diapering and hanging them to dry, I truly enjoy it.
