My Two Solutions; Night-time Diapering

My little one is a heavy wetter at night, so finding a perfect night-time diaper solution was bit of trial and error until we could find a solution that would work and be leak-free. Initially I started using our pocket diapers with the inserts the diapers come with. Unfortunately we problems with the diaper wicking and leaking in the middle of the night, so the hunt was on to find the perfect option for us!

I tried doubling up the microfiber inserts, however, it just made the diaper so bulky and we still had some wicking issues. After researching insert options I decided to try some hemp inserts inside of our bumGenius pocket diapers. I used the one size microfiber insert the bumGenius diaper comes with and a large hemp insert. Thankfully the diaper wasn’t too bulky; but I had serious doubts if the diaper would hold up all night! Anxiously waiting to see if I’d find a damp baby, I was pleasantly surprised to find no leaks! The hemp and microterry fiber insert combination held everything for the full 12 hours he slept! I was thrilled, and went right to the computer to order a few more inserts.

I also wondered if I could add a hemp insert into a fitted diaper and see if it would hold up all night. I debated with myself whether to try it, afterall, did I want to mess with the routine that was working so great for us. Ultimately I gave it a shot and put him in a Bagshot Row Bamboo fitted diaper with a hemp insert stuffed in between. For a little extra protection I used a fleece cover and put my little one to bed. This time I was hopeful it would work and was happy to find a dry baby!

I now have 2 successful night-time solutions for my heavy wetter. I don’t think I will try anything else for a while unless I start to have issues down the road.

Thanks for sharing! We have the same problem, but the BG with large insert plus hemp usually works for us, too. I'm thinking of adding hemp behind a prefold, too, because the prefold and cover leak less often than the BG even though they get soaked.

Hey, good for you finding two night solutions! I love hemp for my heavy wetter as well-I can't imagine trying to diaper at night without it. lol. Your LO is so cute!! I love those blue striped baby legs with the blue diaper and striped shirt. Absolutely too cute for words! :D

Good info - I need to try a hemp insert....my husband insists we use disposibles overnight for fear of leaks.

Pockets always leaked for my lo at night once she got to be a year old or so. However, a hemp or bamboo fitted diaper paired with a wool cover was never let me down! I love my fitted diapers and wool covers for night time or long car rides!

Your post made me smile this morning because just yesterday I bought new hemp inserts to use with my pocket diapers at night! LOL My son woke up dry today, so I'm happy with the hemp/micro-terry combo (for now at least).

Our BG pockets starting leaking at 1 yr too! I think it's because of her size, we have gaps at the legs. However with the Fuzzibunz adjustable leg elastic- no problems. Too bad we only have 1!

I'm going to have to try the hemp insert with the BG. Right now we use double inserts and I hate the bulkiness

This has been our quest, as well! Twelve hours is a lot to ask from a cloth diaper. I have heard great things about hemp inserts and am going to go get some!! We use diaper covers over whatever we use, even pockets. It's just a nice extra waterproof layer.

Aww! Yeahhh the pocket diapers with the hemp inserts are a great way. I use the super duper insert and it's working quite well!!

I've never tried putting anything else inside the BG pocket diaper. I have some cotton terry inserts I could try out.

I too am using a microfiber/ hemp combo for night time! I Actually have to use both the inserts that came with my BG 3.0 and the hemp insert. Its bulky but my 10 1/2 month old hasn't complained yet!

I only occasionally have leaking with the BG onesize insert, but I would like to try hemp too. I have heard really good things about it!

I'm just starting with cloth diapers and the overnight thing was a little confusing to me. Thanks for giving some suggestions on how to handle it!

I have found that the double stuffed BGs work well too. I've also noticed that my 15month old isn't nearly as heavy a wetter as he was when he was 8 months old. Which makes it a little easier at night!

Love your pics!
