November's Spotlight MOM

Name: Lisa H.

Hometown: Powhatan, VA
Mom to: Joshua (5), Jaycie (4), Jamieson (16 mos)
Occupation:Registered Nurse
Wishes she had more time to... relax and travel.

One thing you can’t leave home without...
My diaper bag fully stocked with all of my favorite cloth diapering essentials!

Was introduced to cloth diapering by...
My mom. She actually suggested it several times over the years before I researched it and decided to give it a try. Now I wish I had tried it years ago when my oldest was a baby.

What is one cloth diapering tip you wish you had gotten from the very start?
Don’t invest all your money in one brand. Try a lot of different styles and brands before you decide what will work best for you, your baby and your lifestyle.

What is one cloth diapering tip you would tell a new mom?
Don’t get discouraged because cloth diapering is a wonderful experience once you find a system and laundry routine that works for you, your baby and your lifestyle. Don’t stress over everything you read and hear about cloth diapering … find what works for you!!

How many hours of sleep do you get a night?
Not enough! Usually it’s about 6 hours – sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. Okay, sometimes it’s a lot less!

Describe your baby’s last meltdown.
He is 16 months old right now, so he has a meltdown every few minutes. When he is mad he will lie down on the floor and start kicking his legs. It’s quite a site!

And describe your last meltdown...
Let’s just say that when mom isn’t happy… no one is happy!

I love her advice about trying different kinds of diapers. I did that, and I am so glad I did.

I totally agree with the tip to not get discouraged and keep trying. I think cloth diapering is great, but it takes a while to get into a routine with it and find what works for you.

Yeah, I wish I had gotten the advice of trying different diapers before I purchased so many of one kind. I do like what I'm using, but I had no idea how many different types of cloth diapers were out there, and sometimes I wonder if I would be happier with a different type than what I'm using.

Great advice! I've only been cloth diapering for about 6 months and I didn't invest in one brand. I love trying out different brands and prints and colors. It's so much fun!

Powhatan is in my neck of the woods! It's cool to hear about others close by who are cloth diapering! I also tried several different kinds of diapers, and I'm so glad I did! There are still several more I plan to try because there are so many cool options out there.

Sleep? I recently decided sleep is for wimps... but boy how I'd love to be a wimp!! LOL

I do second her advice about trying different brands. I hate Haute Pockets, love bGs, and just fell in love with HHs, too! Wouldn't have know about 'em if I hadn't tried them.
