When it comes to cloth diapers the easier question is, what wouldn’t I buy! I am always on the look-out for the newest innovation or a style I haven’t tried or a brand about which others rave. However, this made me take a good, hard look at my stash. If the only diapers available were the ones in my stash, what would I definitely buy more of? What could I live without? What would I be devastated to lose? Thankfully she didn’t limit me to one or even two because I don’t know if I could do that, but I know that several quickly popped into my head as my absolute favorites. I’ve narrowed it down to my top three:
- Fuzzi Bunz Perfect Size-To be quite honest these took me a while to fall in love with, but now it is a full-on affair. The fleece on the inside of the FB is unlike any other diaper. It is plush and soft, resists stains and wears beautifully. They are my go-to naptime diaper because they are leak-proof and cozy, but I will reach for them anytime, anywhere. I have not tried the FB One-Size and, honestly, don’t feel any need. My daughter has fit in the Perfect Size medium from the time she was 4 months old. She is now 20 months old (and certainly not a petite 20 month old, by any means) and still fits them very comfortably with room to spare.
- Bum Genius 4.0-I have been a huge fan of Bum Genius from the moment my daughter started in cloth. The BG 3.0’s were definitely a staple, but now that the 4.0 is here with snaps they are nearly perfect. They are durable, leak-proof and very trim. I have no worries that the new, larger sizing will definitely last until potty training. I could go on and on about their amazing attributes, but the bottom line is that these are one of the diapers that I rely on for a trim-fit, trusty leak-proof protection and dry overnights.
- Blueberry Pockets- My first Blueberry diaper seemed like a big splurge to me. They have now come down in price making them comparable to most other one-size pockets on the market. Most of my Blueberries have the microterry/hemp-combo insert which is unbelievable in absorption, rarely retains any odors and is remarkably thin considering how many layers of protection you’re getting. The colors and prints are beautiful, the sizing has always been perfect and the materials are top of the line.
Could you choose one or two favorites or, like me, do you love having more options?

I can definitely narrow it down to my top two: Fuzzibunz OS, which took me awhile to warm up to but now I love them, and Rumparooz OS, which have the best newborn poop containment with their extra inner gussetting - talk about a laundry saver!
I love having options, but I could go without my Kissaluvs Marvels One-Size All in One Diaper. I would choose my one size side snapping Knickernappies and Mother Ease one size fitteds.
I guess I really can't say yet - as I'm still waiting for this overdue kiddo to arrive. So far I really like the idea of the flip system and that has made up most of my stash. I just ordered some best bottoms as well. We'll see!!
Oh I love this post! I really couldn't decide entirely on one cloth diaper for my stash either! I have mostly Fuzzibunz (One-Size & Perfect Size Medium), Knickernappies, Gro-Baby OS & a few Bumgenius (3.0 & 4.0)as well as WAHM AI2 diapers. By far I go for the pockets the most but I also like the Gro-Baby OS trim fit. My hubby would be happy if we had all Fuzzibunz (or probably front fastening especially in hook & loop) - he has a harder time with the side-snapping Knickernappies. I love most of my stash for various reasons & love the variety of colors between brands - love prints too. Got a couple Cutey Baby AIO free @ KC but too big for my girl still - cute but not sure I "love" them since the fit is prob better for chunkier babies.
I'd definitely be able to break it down to my top 3:
1) BG 4.0's: I love the fit and leak resistance.
2) KaWaii Bamboo Minky: Again, fit and leak resistance, but also, it's bamboo. I love how incredibly soft these are and how absorbing the inserts are. Very trim, and CHEAP.
3) Monkey Snuggles Overnight Fitteds: Hands Down the BEST night time fitted diaper. I LOVE the softness of the OBV and they keep my daughter dry all night! I don't need to change her which means getting her back to sleep is easier.
I would never buy more FuzziBunz. I had 24 of them but after my daughter turned about 10 months they leaked like crazy.
BumGenius 4.0s are probably my favorite pocket but with a LoopyDo (or SuperDo) insert. Microfiber just doesn't hold enough. In my opinion, they fit better than a FB.
Ragababe is my favorite AIO. They are utterly leakproof! They are on the expensive side so I only have about 6. If I had thought more about it before I bought the BGs I would have bought all Ragababes.
I'd have to go with BG AIO. Just love them, no stuffing yet still trim for an AIO. Absorbs well, we use at nighttime!
I could narrow it down to 2 or 3, if I had to. I love our BG Elementals for all-day, every day use. The AIO style, organic cotton, and snaps are hands-down the best for our house. For overnight we MUST have pockets though (BG 4.0 w/ snaps are our favs) since DS is a heavy wetter. And we love WAHM fitteds with covers (fleece or FLIPs) for overnight for our DD, or for daytime use around the house without covers.
I agree, I love that my stash has so many varieties. I do have my favorites, but I am always changing my mind about what is working for us any particular week.
Thanks for this post. I'm interested in cloth diapering and it gives me a good idea of what diapers are best to try.
OMG!!!! WHICH brand is the light blue and brown paisley one? OMG I MUST have it!
I am ordering some Bumgenius 4.0's and cant wait to try them. I'm surprised Rumparooz aren't on here, I hear they are fantastic.
Laura-LOL, the blue and brown paisley is my daughter's favorite! It's a Blueberry Minky. She requests it as soon as it's out of the laundry calling it her "soffff" diaper.
Emily-My Rumparooz are up there, definitely, maybe even in the #4 slot. My only issue is that sometimes they can appear slightly (but only slightly) bulky. Love the gussets, patterns, materials and functionality of them. Never a leak with them either. I'd definitely give one a try if you're looking for a little variety. Smartipants are another that I really have come to love though I didn't have high expectations for them.
M-Dive right into cloth diapering. You won't look back, I promise! BG's are definitely a good starter diaper for newbies. You will be surprised how quickly and easily you will adapt to cloth and fall madly in love. I started with a lot of doubts with my second child and became obsessed! #3 is on his way in a couple of weeks and I can't wait to start anew with him.
