Cloth diapers are now just a smidgen of what my family does to save money and be green. Along with cloth diapers we have begun to use cloth napkins, towels instead of paper towel, etc. But I am always looking for new ways to be environmentally conscious and, of course, save money.
I first read about the Diva Cup on a mommy blog. The Diva what???? I didn’t know exactly what it was, but it sounded. ..um… weird. But then as I was browsing Kelly’s Closet I saw that they had them for sale. That was over a year ago. I was pregnant and looking for newborn diapers, not menstrual care. I was a little intrigued and read the description to my husband. Like most men his reaction was “I do NOT want to know”. But I did and it didn’t seem as “weird”.
Fast forward to a couple of months ago. Despite nursing exclusively I, once again, got my monthly fun visit back. I was totally not prepared. Emergency trip to the store. And then on the way home, the Diva Cup entered my mind. I began wondering if it really worked. Does it hurt? Is it gross?
I’m here to tell you that it is worth it! The instructions are very clear and with a couple of times I had the hang of using it. Not only will it pay for itself within about 3 months, it is comfortable, hygienic (I also use the Diva Wash), and I don’t have to make any emergency trips to the store! Cloth diapering has opened up a whole new world to me.

OMG! I love my Diva Cup! I am so happy that I decided to give it a try. I owe my thanks to cloth diapering and Kelly's Closet for that too.
Ladies, if there is anyone out there debating whether or not to get one, GO FOR IT!
Just ordered one a few days ago with my kellys closet gift certificate. :)
I am interested in trying this and wondered if anyone has experience after a c-section... should I use the regular one? or the post childbirth one?
I agree - it's great! For me, cloth diapering has been my gateway to even greener living!
I used the Keeper for years.. and then I had baby #1. For some reason, even though I ordered a new Keeper for post-vaginal childbirth, I could no longer use it due to major discomfort.
But, I will say that the Diva Cup and the Keep are THE BEST environmentally, for your body, and for the wallet! I am hoping to try out the Diva Cup once I stop bfing baby #2 (he's six weeks so prob not for another year :)
I have something similar to the Diva Cup, and I LOVE it. I learned about cups via cloth diapering too.
I've always hated the other options for dealing with Aunt Flo, and a cup was(and still is) the perfect solution for me.
My sister bought me a diva cup a few years back before I moved to rural Africa for a couple of years. She thought it would be convenient since we had an outhouse and not great access to tampons at the grocery store. It was a great of her to think of that, but it turned out to be a disaster. When you live in rural Africa, sanitation isn't always top of the list, so a sterile, clean diva cup wasn't possible!! Plus, I always had a hard time getting it in properly, and it would leak on me all the time. I still love the idea though, and maybe some day I'll try it again!
I purchased my Diva Cup a few months ago and LOVE it. Since having my first son 16 months ago Tampons have NOT worked for me. I had been reading about the Diva Cup and at first thought it sounded nasty, however the saving money thing got to me and I decided to try. I am SO glad I did. It fits perfectly, is SO convenient, discreet, and easy to use.
I would say go a step further and get some Mama Cloth too. It is amazing. Works well, comfortable, and easy on the wallet. Diva Cup + Mama Cloth = The best thing I've done since Cloth Diapering!
I too am a DIVA! Will never go back to paper products. We also enjoy using cloth napkins, towels, etc. Great post!
Oh man. I am definitely curious but I still don't know if I can handle the diva cup. I did buy some cloth pads a few months ago, but haven't had a period again yet to see how I like them. They HAVE to be better than disposable maxi pads. The UNcomfort of those is one reason I really wanted to put cloth and not paper on my son's butt!!
I just started using it this month myself and I agree - LOVE it. Took a few days to get the hang of it but definitely great! Add that to some reusable pads/liners and I'm a happy woman who doesn't have to run to the store every month! YAY!
I first got my Diva Cup 3 years ago. LOVED IT! I haven't used it in over a year now due to pregnancy, AF-less breastfeeding, and now having an IUD. However, it's there for me whenever I need it again.
Anyone one on the fence should go for it! It doesn't carry the risk of TSS that tampons do, is more hygienic, and saves you money. It also is pretty easy to get the hang of it.
I love my diva cup as well. But, I will say, I think it is easier for those of us who have had babies. :-) I am a BIG fan!! I don't worry about leaking, or TSS..it is great!!!
I also use the Diva Cup. It took be about 2 months to get used to (personally), but now I love it. I wish I would have known about it... like 10 years ago! So smart!
I honesty have been debating it.. I just brought it up to one of my best friends and she told me i was gross for even considering it.. I only use about 4 to 5 tampons for my periods... but the main thing i would switch for is because I have a septic and it's a pain in the a** to have to pay attention and drop it in the waste basket and not the toilet.. and then keeping little ones away from the trash is my other problem.. so i know i should just do it. I was afraid of the mess honestly... is it gross taking it out and in? Any messes to clean up?? convince me a little more!
I find that tampons are really uncomfortable for me, wouldn't the Diva Cup be about the same?
Ok - so I did the same thing. I was all intrigued, and wanted to give up the disposable products, so I bought one, but when I tried it.....no success. And not in a leak, doesn't work, kind of way....more like "oh my gosh, I'm going to be sooo embarrassed if I have to go to the doctor to get this thing removed..." What did I do wrong? I'm scared to try again - it literally took over an hour to be able to get the thing out.
I have been curious about this. Glad to hear the good reviews!
just to give the opposite side of the story....i totally loved my diva cup the first two days i used it.....then i got a bacterial infection! my doc said (and she is very supportive of natural care type stuff) that the diva cup CAN trap bacteria inside you, causing an infection! she recommended i not use it again....i was really disappointed. so just be careful, is my advice!! :)
I have been thinking about this product for a while now. I have tried similar, disposable, products with success so I'm not sure what the hesitation is about...
I am thinking of trying this after my son is born. I hate using pads and tampons!
I just signed up for Kelly's Closet e-newsletter, and look forward to seeing everyone's recommendations, opinions, and tips!
