Why Hemp Inserts in Your Cloth Diapers?

FuzziBunz recently introduced a new diaper called the FuzziBunz Hemp. The FuzziBunz Hemp comes in one-size, vanilla color cloth diaper and includes small and medium hemp inserts with each diaper. The inserts are made from 55% natural hemp and 45% certified organic cotton. (The cotton adds flexibility to the insert).

While hemp sounds great and you've probably heard a lot about this wonder fabric, you may be interested in knowing exactly how hemp is beneficial to your modern cloth diapering experience. Let's discuss:
  • First, hemp makes your diapering experience ultra-green. Hemp requires no pesticides to farm and it doesn't deplete soil like cotton. Using cloth diapers means you're being green already, but adding hemp to the mix super-sizes this "eco-friendly" experience.
  • Second, hemp has natural anti-microbial properties, which, some say, may aid in deterring mold, bacteria and fungus.
  • Third, hemp makes a great absorbing agent and can hold a good amount of liquid. Most moms with heavy wetters enjoy hemp inserts, especially at night, so their baby and their baby's bedding stays dry!
  • Forth, hemp is a breathable fabric and durable by nature. Since it's used in your baby's diaper, this makes for a more positive and comfortable diapering experience for your baby.
If you haven't given hemp a try, now might be a good time to do so. What have you got to lose?

Known as the “Mother of the Modern Cloth Diaper,” Tereson Dupuy invented the cloth diaper that started the entire modern cloth diapering movement more than a decade ago. She later turned her invention into what is known today as FuzziBunz cloth diapers, a popular brand of cloth diapers since 2000.  As an inventor, business owner and mom to three, Tereson has many years of personal and professional experience in the cloth diaper industry, and she's excited to work with The Cloth Diaper Whisperer to offer her perspective on cloth diapering trends and insights. I always wondered about the mold/mildew thing - thanks for confirming. Living in the PNW I have had constant battles with this - even using a drying and really watching that my diapers don't sit too long I still battle it on occasion. I love my hemp doubles and now if I had it to do all over again I might have done all hemp FBs too (but I don't know if I could do all white - some of those colors are sooo cute).

I use hemp inserts in all my toddler son's night time diapers and I love how thin they are.

I love hemp inserts! I have never tried these fuzzi bunz ones but might have to look into them!

I know you have to wash hemp separately to prep it because of the oils in it, but after the hemp inserts/diapers have been prepped, do you have to continue washing them separately, or can you throw them in with your microfiber inserts and cotton prefolds, etc.?

My son is a super heavy wetter and without hemp I think I'd wake up to a soaked baby every morning! He sleeps anywhere from 10-13 hours at night and apparently pees a ton. The hemp soaks everything right up and he is always nice and dry in the morning.

I just heard about these and since my son is a super soaker at night, I think I'm going to have to order some, STAT. :)

I have heard some of my friends say that they hate hemp. They say that it doesn't hold much. I wonder why.
