The Poop Diaper

Our adventures in cloth diapering officially began about 4 months ago when our son was born.  He is actually our third child.  We have two older girls, but when they were born, we had no idea that modern cloth diapers existed or that normal people used them!  With our son we decided to try it out.  He is now 4 months old and exclusively breastfed and exclusively cloth diapered.  Now, most parents who have a breastfed baby know that constipation is generally NOT a problem for your babe.  That is true with our son too, however, we have two sure fire ways of getting him to poop.

The first is to put him in his trusty Happy Heinys Diaper (the adorable one with the monkey print).  95% of the time as soon as that soft lining touches his bottom, he poops.  Sometimes we don't even get it snapped before he starts.  Even our girls affectionately refer to it as the "poop diaper"!  Our second surefire way to create some bowel action is to set him in his Bumbo Seat.  Something about that position causes him to poop. Every. Single. Time.  And usually within about 10 seconds.
So, if your baby ever suffers from constipation, you too may want to try one of our "tried and true" methods

the only bummer of that plan is that he never gets to show off his adorable monkey diaper, because it always has to be changed right after it goes on. :)

The bouncy seat gets us everytime!

We try to reuse our one Flip cover (in Ribbit! My favorite!) but my daughter always does a big messy poop while wearing it and it has to be washed. We call it her poop diaper too!

DS always seems to poop as soon as I put the dipes in the laundry and have an empty pail!

Soft IBIPFs always did the trick for us. Particularly when he wasn't wearing a cover.

My little guy always poops at the sound of the washer

and also whenever he was in his bumbo. My chubster barely fit in his bumbo, so the poop always exploded up.

We always referred to our bumbo as the potty seat =)

That is hilarious! My boys usually mange to do that just when I put them in a cute matching shirt and diaper. I've given up!

Haha!! We know what time our little 4 month old usually goes (mornings) but sometimes we miss our poo time. She's been down with the ick, so I've been checking her temp when she's fussy--another surefire way for a poo? Breaking the "seal" with a thermometer! LOL. I pulled it out, and WOAH BABY the poo when everywhere! But at least it didn't get on me!

As soon as we started noticing patterns and an obvious grunting for poops (at about 3 months) we started EC! We're pretty casual about it, but now that our daughter is almost 16 months, it is great to have to change (and rinse) only a few missed poopy diapers a month!

Sometimes LO goes more than a day without pooping, the sure fire way for us to "fix" that is for me to start washing a load of cloth diapers. It 100% guarantees that the first diaper going into the empty pail is a poopy one.
