The Teething Blues

Little man has been cutting teeth like crazy since he was about 8 months old and it doesn't show any signs of slowing down. He's getting all 4 of his molars at once so he's been quite a bear lately. There are tons of options out there as far as teething relief including the standards of Tylenol and baby Orajel. I'm iffy on giving either since I'm not a huge fan of meds myself I don't like giving them the boys unless they're necessary. Plus there has been a lot of controversy about Orajel with the benzocaine in it causing problems with little ones. It's something we resort to on a occasional basis though. Hylands also makes a natural teething gel and also tablets that dissolve in their mouth's. I'm not 100% that these work all that great for us. He's still usually pretty fussy either way.

The other lifesaver we have found it our amber teething necklace we bought from Kelly's Closet when he was around 8 months old. There's some concerns here too that they could choke themselves or choke on one of the beads. The up side is the beads are all individually knotted so if they happen to break the string only one bead will come off. The amber teething necklaces are said to work by relasing succinic acid after they warm up to the body temperature. There's no scientific articles I could find that support this but there are lots of mama's who swear by these neckalces. Me included because I can definitely notice a difference if he doesn't have it on. We take if off at night and don't always remember to put it back on him in the morning.

The other lifesaver for us has been the Jellystone Smart Phone Teether. These are awesome teehters which are 100% BPA free silicone. It not only helps little man soothe sore teeth but it keeps him from being obsessed with our cell phones all the time. He won't chew on a frozen cold teether or a frozen wash cloth so there's days I am beyond grateful for our Jellystone teether. He also likes the teethers that vibrate against their gums when they bite down but the phone is his favorite lately.

What’s your little one’s favorite soothing method for teething?

I am so nervous about teething! I don't know anything about it (his is my first and he's 3 months) so I'm trying to read everything I can get my hands on. Thanks for this post!
