In building my stash for two I had no idea where to start. I jumped in the cloth diaper pool with my eyes closed and wallet open. The first purchase was 2 Fuzzi Bunz, one pink and one blue. When they came in the mail, were washed and snapped on my little ones, I knew right away I needed more of these gems. At the same time I continued to order a few other types from online, and new diapers would show up almost every day! The UPS man was starting to wear a path from his truck to my front door.
I feel like I really was able to try a lot of different kinds whether its pockets, AIOs, or fitteds. We, like most I am sure, have our go-to diapers. Those diapers that you know will hold even if you little one downs a 8oz bottle and takes a 4 hour nap. Today, I still find that Fuzzi Bunz are our favorites but I have also fell in love with Blueberry diapers. And although I prefer the sized Blueberrys I feel most economical when I purchase the one size diapers.

BumGenius one sized pockets are our best friends at night. Our babies are sleeping from 10 to 12 hours and a double stuffed BumGenius keeps us leak free the whole time. Even if someone decides to do more than tinkle at 4am! I would say Happy Heinys are next on the list and after that its a tie for all the other brands that randomly congregate in my diaper storage. I have a few WAHM diapers that my babies still need to grow into and I am very excited to see how well those do in the future for us. And then there are fitteds. These were absolutely my least favorite. I know they have a cult following, but they were not for us. I gotta have my pockets!
Through my journey of finding the holy grail of diapers I realized that I quickly figured out what once intimidated me so. I know now that I prefer snaps over velcros, and that one size diapers make me feel frugal (Maybe not when buying in bulk, LOL!). I no longer feel like a cloth diaper poser who is trying so hard to belong. I figured out the code and it was absolutely worth the embarrassing amount of time I spent researching it all online! And now I find myself recruiting others and whispering down that lane of mothers just how wonderful cloth diapering really can be.

I love cloth diapering!!! Although, I was just telling my husband that if I had known when I started what I know now I would have bought differently. Ah well. I love it anyway.
What a GREAT post! I totally like snaps over velcro now too & at first I hated snaps. Funny how our likes change with the changing of the stash ;)thanks for the post!
Lol, I think I am still in the "poser" stage. That being said, I don't have a little baby bum to cover in fluff but once I do, I think I will become more confident!
oh I forgot to say that pic is ADORABLE!!! a PERFECT pic, cute babies, cute diapers, hehe CUTE
Very interesting! I would love to hear from this mama again in a few more months with a possibly new perspective as her babies have grown and she has tried more styles. I know that probably my first 6-8 months of CDing were filled with experimenting and definite changes in tastes! Beautiful babies!
It is great to hear how other came upon cloth diapers and their journey and growth :)
Amanda, your babies are adorable and I LOVE the picture of them swimming in their fluff. I have recently discovered the wonderful world of snaps! My DD can't open her diaper any more and there is just something about not having a white strip of Velcro across the front that makes the diaper even cuter. (IMO). I hear SO many raves about the Blueberry diapers....I hope to add some to my stash when we decided to have baby #2. But for my DD, I'm deff. going to build a stash of Blueberry trainers as soon as finances permit. :)

More great advice. And your babies are SO cute!
ohhhh i just LOVE these posts. if you ever need someone to do a post with three kiddos in diapers...i'm that lady. :0) i'd be willling.
Posts like this make me feel good about insisting on only snaps from the beginning... it seems like most people lean towards them in the end. It's neat to see how different people are in their CD views :)
Another great post and more cutie patootie models. I'm so glad I found this blog :D
Your little ones are so cute - I love hearing about everyone's favorite diapers - it gives great ideas and reinforces that different things work for different moms and babies!
I love my Blueberry diapers too - but they're just a little pricier than I'd like!!
Thanks for sharing! It is nice to hear from someone else who spent WAY too long online trying to decipher what type of cloth diaper to try.
Amanda: We are always looking for guest writers!! So we would love to hear from an experienced mom who is diapearing 3 at a time!!! Email me at 3littleflowers at gmail dot com.
Love the picture of your babies sitting in the laundry basket with the diapers - too cute. At what age did you start cloth diapering them? My good friend just had twins last week and plans on cloth diapering when things settle down a bit. I'll have to share this post with her. (She had a boy and a girl too)
I had to laugh at your comment about the UPS man wearing a path between the truck and your door...I think we're in the same boat - let's call it our part in stimulating the economy :)
The twins are just way too cute in their tub of diapers!! I prefer the snaps too! I hated doing them at first, until I started finding diapers around the house and a naked Andy on the run.
"eyes closed and wallet open" - same here. I wanted to try everything, still do. My tastes are constantly changing, one week I love our pockets, the next week I love prefolds and covers, or fitteds and wool.
You little ones are darling!
I have learned I prefer snaps too. Much easier to just throw in the wash. Cute babies!
I agree that the bumGenius are the best overnight diapers. They are great!
I started in a very similar way, on-line research and jumping in. I don't know anyone else who CD and there were no stores around me at the time that sold them (now our local Target carries BumGenius). But with a baby allergic to disposables, I jumped in, spent money in places I wouldn't have if I'd known better, and learned which products I loved.
I've always wanted twins! It must be a lot of work- two infants at once. My one baby has kept me busy enough. Maybe for babies 2 & 3!
Such a cute picture!
I can now say I am a pocket manna! This is after thinking that pockets just didn't make sense since you could only use them once. That was why I always used prefolds with covers, covers could be used all day before having to laundry them. And of course prefolds were much more economical. But then I took the leap into pockets and will have a hard time going back especially with older wiggly little ones :)
Yet another mama raving about blueberry diapers! I will have to give those a try! Your twins must have been born around thanksgiving (like my DD)? They are so cute and you can justify buying girl and boy colors :)
Your babies are so adorable! I was wishing for twins this last time. I'm sure you have your hands full!!!! CD two would be twice as fun!
adorable twins! I just got my first blueberry and I love it!
this is gorgeous good job mum!
I love the picture of your precious babies. LOL, I'm totally in the poser stage. I had a really cheap set of prefolds and covers to try and today I ordered my DSQ prefolds and one size covers and I can't wait for them to get here! I wish there was an inexpensive way to try the AOI and OS diapers but I guess I'll have to wait until I run across some at a yard sale. Thanks for the information its invaluable to me right now as a poser. Blessings!
LIke you, I like bBumGenius for night. Unlike you, I follow the cult of fitteds! They are my absolute favorite, and I try to convince myself they aren't the most expensive diapering option out there... Oh, well! For me they are WORTH IT!
I'm also switching my stash over from velcro to snaps. I thought I preferred velcro until my 11 month old figured out how to take those nappies off!!!!! :)
I'm also not a huge fan of Happy Heiny's. Great prints, but the fit is poor, materials wear out, and the red mark on my son's back looks painful!
what cute Lo's and kudos to you for CD them :)
I really enjoy hearing about others pros and cons about the different diapers. I am just using wonder wraps and prefolds, which I really like, but I would also like to branch out and try some others but fear that I will spend the money and not like them. So, this gives me some ideas and one day I will get brave and venture outside my comfort ;)
Great post- as someone new to cloth and with a limited budget, this helps me know what to try out. Thanks :-)
