The Whisperer Answers: Aplix or Snaps?

Not only are there many brands of diapers then you have to make the decision of getting an aplix (Velcro type) or snap closing diaper. What should you do?

After selling cloth diapers for almost 8 years I can honestly tell you that every customer is different! Some absolutely will not use an aplix closing diaper. Their reasoning is that aplix diapers will wear out quicker than snap closing diapers. To be honest they are correct. Any aplix closing product- whether cloth diapers or on clothing will wear quicker than a snap closing product. If you plan on having more than 2 children and want to keep using the same diapers over and over then most likely snap closing diapers are the way to go.

On the home front, my husband will absolutely not use a snap closing diaper. He prefers the aplix closing diapers as they are more adjustable and much easier for him to use on our baby. He won't even change the baby unless there is an aplix version clean and ready!
Using one or the other is truly a personal choice. Here are some advantages and disadvantages of each style:

If you are undecided you may want to try sampling a snap closing diaper (like a Fuzzi Bunz) and an aplix closing diaper (like a BumGenius) to help you make your decision. Usually you will know right away after trying a couple types of diapers which style closure you prefer!
