Popular Cereal Endorses Disposable Diapers

Have you ever taken diapering advice from a popular cereal company?

My children were sitting at the kitchen table yesterday morning eating their favorite popular "o's" cereal. My son loves to eat his cereal and reads the back of the box. He started to read the back:

"Your little one is learning and growing every day, and the morning is one of the best times for that growth to happen. That's why -ampers and --eerios are working together to bring you bright mornings.... -ampers Baby Dry helps lock wetness away for up to 9 hours. Plus, -ampers Wipes with baby powder scent help refresh your child."

The 2 companies have partnered "Together for Bright Mornings."

My son commented and said," Mommy, this isn't true. Riley can go thru an entire night without having to change." Can you tell you I just LOVE him extra for saying that? Even my 8 year old knows that with the right cloth diaper system you can go 10-12 hours at night without having to change.

Just wanted to post that there are some terrific cloth diaper options that will work just as well if not better at keeping your baby dry at nighttime. We use a pocket diaper (either a Fuzzi Bunz, bumGenius, or Blueberry) stuffed with a bumGenius one size insert and a Super-Do Hemp Insert and are able to go 12 hours at nighttime with our 6 month old.

Next time I go shopping though I will look at the back of the box and will make sure not to purchase a box of cereal with disposable diaper endorsements. Better yet, I might need to find a new "o's" cereal!

Oh my goodness! That is really awful!! That really annoys me...how could a company that claims to provide healthy foods support TRASH!? Next time I go grocery shopping I just know I'm going to be checking the cereal boxes. :p

That is too funny, they do not even go together...food and daipers? yuk! I guess in a wierd way, what goes in must come out, but not something I want to think about at the breakfast table.

Generic o's taste just as good and come without the endorsement! :)

Wow, that is a strange partnership. Are they both owned by the same parent company or something? Kind of funny how this country is so into environmentally clean living, yet turns it's nose at the mention of cloth diapering. My 9 month old sleeps in a BG all night and we rarely have leaks. Only time that happens is when I nurse him in the middle of the night, so that's to be expected.

That seems silly. And, though fairly new to cloth diapering (I have only been doing it for less than six months, but my daughter is only eight months)it is just yet another instance of something that makes me say "when is everybody going to wake up and see that cloth diapers are really the way to go?" I mean, you don't see cloth diaper ads on cereal, making you think about something I personally don't care to think about while eating breakfast...diapers!
And we use BG with two one size inserts...never had a leak and we go at least 12 hours (if only my daughter actually slept that!) and before I switched to two one size inserts, we did one one size insert and two newborn inserts. Never had a leak which is more that I can say for disposables!

The two reference each other on their websites too. I no longer buy either brand. My kids are happy with generic o's & I'm much happier with my baby in cloth!!!

I guess I don't find the promotion of disposable diapers nearly as offensive. I love cloth and wouldn't have it any other way but to each their own. I still use a few when we are at church and when the boys stay with our sitter.

The advertising and marketing department clearly didn't stop to thoroughly ponder over this idea before running with it. I see how they're trying to stretch the connection between the two - but this is absolutely absurd.

Just another reason I love my cheap generic "o"s. I would love it if they put something like "partnering to expose your child's delicate skin to toxic gels for 9 hours a night." Although in the spirit I must admit I too have used disposables in the past, and I may find myself using an occassional one in the future. Most of the time though, you will find my son in his pocket diaper with 2 inserts and dry sheets in the morning!

Sounds like you have a smart son--he already questions what he reads and doesn't take everything for a fact!

oh my word ... well another reason for me to keep getting trader joe's o's ... they are yummy ... :)

I was just surprised to see nine hours sitting on paper pants to be considered a GOOD thing!

This is ridiculous. I can't believe they are trying to brainwash America to continue creating landfills so they can line their pockets.

Wow... talk about I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine! And how great that even your older kid knew the difference!

I agree that it sucks that ___o's are supporting disposables, but the way companies are owned and affiliated I don't have the time to research and avoid every single product that supports disposables. P&G, Johnsons etc. they also make food, cleaning and beauty supplies and much more and I'm not going to purposefully avoid all of them.

It is so amazing that a child coul dpick up on something like that. I can see the marketing ploy attached to it, but with every company seeming to "Go Green" I am surprised that the cereal company wouldn't want to do the same thing.

Too funny! Just this weekend at a family gathering we realized we had forgotten our diaper bag at home and ended up borrowing a sposie from a cousin (no one else in the fam has caught either the CD or make-your-own baby food bug, unfortunately, but not for lack of trying!) and our heavy wetter 21 mo old ended up soaking through it in only 3 hrs- and that was after first going on the toilet before putting on the sposie! My husband remarked how we have yet to have a single leak with our new CDs (fuzzi bunz and bumgenius 3.0s) and yet, the first time we use a sposie again we're changing our child's entire outfit!

I have to say that -Ampers lol ;) leak majorly with my 6 month old but a BG3.0 with just the reg insert hes good to go in from 8pm to 7am! And I BF him twice in the night (I really need to break him of that lol)so poo on them!

It is so funny because the first thing I thought when I saw that was - that's why we switched to cloth - our sposies were leaking after ten hours. SO annoying!! The real question is how do we get cloth diapers on the back of the "o's" box.

Well Target brand O's are pretty darn good and they don't promote you filling up your landfill!

OOH, and I should add that my Pampers that I used with my first baby leaked so badly at nap time that their customer service sent me a coupon for free laundry detergent as compensation! good customer service, bad product!

To be totally honest, I'm not sure how I feel about this. I mean, both companies have a right to market how they want, so I can't really fault them for that. I think what bothers me is that cloth diapers aren't advertised more! I wish they were more main stream, and more widely available to people!!

OMG this is terrible...I think I will have to start checking packages as well...my daughter wore disposables diapers, and no matter what brand it was she soaked right thru them at night, so they are liars. That is why I got into cloth diapering. It is a shame...a pure shame.

Mama Bennie said...

That is truely aweful. I will have to start checking packages. My daughter started out in disposables, and she always soaked right thru them no matter what the brand was. EVEN THE BRAND THAT WAS MENTIONED. It is not only aweful that they are endorsing it, but it is aweful because it is pure lies.

What a smart child you have! I can tell that he is learning from you how to be responsible about the environment! AND he is learning to be a discerning consumer! You sound like an AWESOME momma!! Way to go!
