Hmmm... well I always find it funny how people stare at me in public when I change my daughter. But there was one time that I was in a rest room, changing my daughter and the janitor came in. She tried to take the diaper to throw it away (she was emptying the garbage and I am guessing she figured this way she would not have the smelly diaper in her clean bathroom). So, I had to take it back from her and I was trying to explain that it was cloth but she was so confused I don't think she was really listening. She just stood there shaking her head. I was hysterical after I left the bathroom. :)

My husband is still figuring out prefolds and I noticed the other day as my toddler was running around that about six inches of the prefold was sticking out of the cover in the back....luckily she had not wet the diaper yet!

My funny story is kind of related...it's a potty training story. I have two little boys who are just over two years apart. Liam was starting potty training when Jack was still pretty small. We were having a pretty rough day, Liam had skipped his nap and was bouncing of the walls, and Jack was really fussy. I was busy trying to finish dinner and entertain Jack at the same time, when I noticed Liam was taking his time in the bathroom. I called to him, and he came out....with his soft potty seat around his neck! He had pulled it down over his head and gotten it stuck. I tried to pull it off, but couldn't get it back up over his ears and he had started to really cry. I panicked for a minute and envisioned a rather embarrassing trip to the emergency room. I called my husband, and luckily he had the bright idea of rubbing lotion on his head so that the seat would slide off...and it worked. My sister was mad that I hadn't gotten a picture.

The first day we were using cloth, my husband didn't realize the baby's bum would be bigger and while trying to get her in her jeans, almost flipped her upside down! He was holding the top of the jeans and trying to "jiggle" her in...we moved up to the next size in jeans to accommodate the bulk of the diaper!

Something funny while cloth diapering...when I took my youngest son to the Pediatrician for his 1 yr check up two weeks ago I had him in his Jaguar print blueberry minky diaper. The Dr commented on the diaper and said it made her think of that old Burt Reynolds centerfold where he was wearing a jaguar print loin cloth so to speak. I thought that was pretty funny.

We use mostly BG 3.0's. My daughter recently discovered how to undo velcro after practicing on her new shoes. Just last week, I went to get her up from naptime to find her in the crib with her diaper off. The diaper was a dirty diaper so the BM was everywhere! She had smeared it all over her crib and herself. Very gross. Luckily, my parents were visiting from out-of-state so my mom helped me clean up....it was definitely a 2-3 person job.

I would love to try the Kiwie Pie fitteds and a thirsties cover. Our BG 3.0 aren't absorbant enough sometimes and the velcro comes off easily. I also love the variety of prints!

My funniest cloth diaper story happened yesterday! We are new users of wool soakers (on our 11 mo. old) and I had a prefold Snappi'd on my son inside the soaker. Somehow he undid the Snappi and then pooed but we didn't notice until a big lump of you-know-what started sticking out of the leg opening of the soaker!!! Urgh! Who knew a year ago we'd be sitting in our living room on a Friday night laughing about poop!

Something that I found funny (my husband didn't) was the first time he had to deal with poop in a cloth diaper. We didn't start out cloth diapering, but we started a few months ago. By then my son was a full fledged toddler with real poop, not tiny baby poop. My husband kind of freaked out when he had to deal with that. There was a lot of screaming and carrying on involved (he is a bit dramatic sometimes). My son (and I) thought it was VERY funny. He has since gotten used to flushing the contents of a diaper when necessary, but his initial reaction was pretty funny!

Something funny, or rather embarassing that happened to me lately was when my 5 year old saw her little cousin wearing a disposable and asked me, loudly: "Mommy, are those the kind of diapers that should be illegal?" I try not to be preachy about cloth, but evidently I let something slip.

My husband and I were changing the Imp on the back of our car (I was holding him while my husband did the changing - we're safe, no worries) in a parking lot. B (my husband) was reaching for a clean diaper when the Imp decided to have a very watery bowel movement - off the end of the car all over B's shirt. A woman was walking by at the time and she started cackling madly. It was truly hilarious. At least, it was to me. (:

Funny...The first time my mother had to change my daughter's cloth diaper she couldn't figure out how to snap the cover....she was sure she was doing something wrong because it was soooo easy. When I changed her, she had a prefold pinned on, a kissaluv fitted snapped on & then a fuzzibunz shell snapped on over that....my Mom wanted to be sure she had covered all the bases.

The funniest thing about this to me is that she cloth diapered 2 kids of her own & helped cloth diaper at least 4 of her siblings.

Something funny... Having boys it pretty much goes without saying that you may get sprayed a few times if you are not careful. With that I can say that I never got sprayed with my little infants but not until they could reach down and "open" their prefold before I can get the wrap around them and proceed to "spray" me. But glad I use cloth so I can just use extras to clean up and not worry about wasting money.

When I first started cloth diapering I really had no clue! I bought my pre-folds and my snappi's but for some reason I only thought I needed ONE cover. This fact was only compounded by the fact that my daughters first cloth diaper was a blow out! lol. I will never forget my first day of cloth diapering I did not have one single success the whole day. I'm so glad I stuck with it though!

I don't have any funny stories, because I'm still waiting for the bambino to get here in May, but I know I'll never forget how overwhelmed I felt when I first investigated cloth diapering. I asked a friend for her recommendations and got back a tome! She had favorite diapers for each activity and hour of the day, lol. Now it doesn't seem so complicated anymore, and I can't wait to get started.

I wanted to try my new diapers on a little baby to see if they would fit mine when it comes in May. I asked my friend if we could try them on her 5 week old. I guess our line of communication was crossed and she thought it was for the full meal deal. So her baby proceeded to poo and pee in my babies new diaper. I guess it was time to wash them anyways before my baby comes. They fit great!

My funny story..my daughter was a toddler and took off her diaper in the night. Instead of turning the light on my husband went in and smelled poo and said I can't find her poop. You guessed it, 10 seconds later he was screaming like a girl because he had stepped on her turd!!

I have no funny stories...well, no funny HA HA stories. The funnniest thing that I have done with cloth diapers is over stuff them. At night time, the baby wears a fuzzi bun, with a prefold and insert stuffed into the back. The diaper, when folded around his body almost goes to his knees. It made a very funny picture :)

I don't really have a great, funny story about cloth diapers... the only thing I can think of is the first Sunday that I brought cloth diapers to church for my son (we started with cloth when he was 2.5 months old), I went to change his diaper in the mothers' room. There was anothr mother in there and we had talked frequently before. I grabbed the diaper from my bag and laid my son on the changing table and the mother said, "Wow, that's a big, serious diaper!" She's right! It IS a serious diaper because it works so well!

When my older son was about 18 months old, I woke him up one morning to find him quite a mess... apparently he had pooped during the night and had reached in his diaper and removed the "contents" that morning! There was poo smeared on the sheets, the wall, his clothes, and his hair! I was quite horrified & disgusted. I had to wash his hair in the sink since I was in a hurry & even pick it out from under his nails. Gross!!

Well, 1st I have to say those dipes look FANTASTIC & I have been wanting to try a Thirsties cover!!!

2nd... well, I have 2 funniest cloth diapering moments... the 1st would be that I didn't tell my DH I was CDing. I started w/DD#2 when she was about 8 months old by buying some prefolds & wraps on the cheap from a mama that had a CD business but she was closing down to become a FT doula. I wanted to prove to DH that I COULD do it & that it wouldn't be too much extra work. I was so sick & tired of DD#2's constant rashes in sposies... they were SOOO terrible they would bleed & I had to use 1/2 a tube of generic Desitin on her every diaper change. Even the RX for it just made it worse! I kept crying my eyes out because I was so upset about it... after 2 DAYS in cloth, it was all gone :0)!!!

So anyway, for 2 months he had no idea I was CDing.. I used them at home but not overnight because my DD would out-pee a PF in 30-45 mins during the day. I knew overnight was just not going to work w/a PF & we didn't have the means to buy the expensive fitteds, wool covers, etc. that everyone highly recommended for overnight. So it was not that I hid CDing by any means, DH just had no idea for 2 whole months! LOL Then one day we were driving down the road & Dd#2 started feeling feverish... so I told DH that we were going to have to go back home since she was not feeling well & had a fever. Know what he said?!?!? He said, "I wonder if it's those cloth diapers causing her fever!!!" He was SERIOUS too!!! ROFL!!!!! That was also his way of telling me he was on to the CDing.. & my reply to him was, "Gee, maybe... especially if she hadn't been wearing them for 2 MONTHS already!!!" LOL LOL Then I let him know that babies don't get fevers FROM cloth diapers!!!!! LOL

Now story 2... w/DD#3 we started CDing from 2 weeks old. We stil use sposies at night because even she as a newborn is a super soaker. I thought for sure I would get to use CD's overnight because surely a tiny baby wouldn't pee like an older baby, but how wrong I was.

Anyway, I put her in cloth 1st thing in the AM. One morning DH was changing her & I told him to just use a sposie because she had some generic Desitin on her (to protect her skin overnight in the sposie) and I didn't want that to get in our diapers (which DH did once before W#2, before I told him that cloth & diaper cream don't mix). Well, DH decided he was going to put her in a CD & not tell me. So we were eating breakfast & I patted the baby's bottom... my eyes bugged out of my head because I realized she had a fluffy behind. I raced upstairs to the bathroom where I usually change her... GULP, I noticed a diaper cream tube laying there & it was very sloppy messy w/cream on the outisde, which meant DH had used it!! So I held my breath when I opened up her diaper... what did I find?!?!? He had her in a BG OS pocket w/the insert laid in the inside of the diaper (NOT in the pocket!!) like a LINER!!!! The cream was all dried up on the insert, probably because MF can be very rough on the skin... I cringed because I thought DD would have some skin irritation or a blazing rash from it, but nope, her skin was fine & I managed to scrub the diaper cream off the insert, whew!!

DD#1 (8 YO) walked into the bathroom & asked me why I was using Dawn & a toothbrush to scrub the insert... I told ehr what DY had done & she exclaimed, "You need a diaper LINER in the diaper when you use diaper cream... THAT is not a liner!!!" She cracked me up!! Dh was trying SOOOO hard to show how supportive he is of CDing, so I didn't tell him right away what he had done. I did mention later on that what he used goes INSIDE the diaper pocket & it wasn't a liner... I just wanted to make sure he didn't do it again because I was worried about DD's skin & I didn't want any CD's or inserts ruined.

What a guy!! He went from blaming fevers on CD's to putting them on himself!! LOL

Catherine said...

I guess it's not so funny as it is cute. I just remember being in playgroup with 5 other mothers (all with kids in cloth diapers). They would all run around the room with no pants on, and it was like seeing a sea of bight colors whizzing past.

Michelle said...

Am I on the right page?

Well my 14 month old boy recently learned that it is HIlarious to take off his diaper and crawl around. It makes all his sisters start screaming and laughing.

I velcro it back, he strips it off again. then crawls away as quickly as he can.

The funniest story: hum really don't have one--only been CD'ing for 10 months with #4, but people do think it's pretty crazy that I do. I LOVE it, however and love the fact that his bum is rash free and love the sight of clean dipes on the line.

One time after a changing a squirmy baby. My daughter Emma was walking around the house and my friend noticed her diaper seemed to be hanging awfully low, like around her knees. Turns out the Velcro on her bum Genius diaper had come undone on both sides and the only thing holding it on was her outfit. This was user error not product error. :)

I may have already shared this. Its a little amusing and something I will never forget.
One day, not too long after we started using cloth diapers, my 4 year old son noticed me holding a soiled pocket diaper that I had just taken off my daughter. "Did she go poo poo in her underwear like I sometimes do?" I stifled a laugh and said something about it being a diaper and she was allowed to do that but he wasn't allowed to go in his underwear. He said, "Oh. Well it doesn't really look like a diaper!"
Now he knows better.

Hmm... Funny??? I don't know about funny, but I can comment about ironic! There are 6 Great-grandchildren in my husband's family (soon to be 7- just waiting for our DD#3 to arrive- any day now!!!)under the age of 4 years old! Talk about a baby boom! We are the only CDing family... and our children (except the one we're still waiting on) are both potty trained. CDing has definitely helped that process- they can feel the wetness, and they also don't want to spoil their pretty pants! Our 3.5 yo and 2yo daughters even get up during naps and at night to use the potty. We were having a playdate with one of the cousins recently- aged between our 2 oldest- and she is still wearing disposable trainers all the time. Although she tried on our potty, she still soiled her pullup during their stay. My 2yo kept asking me "Why she pee in her pants, Momma? Why she not use the potty?" When I responded that she didn't know how to, my older daughter said "We can teach her!"

I don't really have a funny cloth diapering story, but I do have something I"ll never forget, so I'll share. My kids and I were riding with my Mom to visit my sister (7 hour drive) last Christmas. We were driving through Kansas City, downtown, where there are no exits and definitely no place to take a child to the bathroom, when my 4 year old announces that she needs to go pee. Bad. NOW. We tried top get her to say if she could wait, but soon she was crying. Desperate for a solution, I had Mom pull over on the shoulder, crawled into the back of the van, and got one of my 18 mo. son's "nightime" diapers out of the bag. Then I got my daughter out of her seat and put the diaper on her. It took a minute or so of convincing her that this was the ONLY option, but she finally did go, and by the time she was done we were both laughing so hard we could hardly stop. Amazingly, the diaper held it all! (FuzziBunz stuffed with a double insert plus a Thirsties hemp doubler!) We got everything back to normal and went on. Thank goodness for cloth!

A cloth diapering story I'll never forget: In February when we flew home from Orlando my youngest had a very poopy diaper. Of course, I noticed about half way into the flight while the flight attendants where serving snacks and beverages. I had to wait a good 15 minutes before I was able to get around the drink cart to make my way to the back of the plane where the bathroom with the changing table was located. I finally got him cleaned up, the BG rolled and stuffed into my wet bag, and was headed back to my seat. I again had to wait for the drink cart to move far enough to the front of the plane so that I could get to my seat...I kind of felt like giggling because I was taking that very stinky, poopy diaper back to my seat with me and no one around me would know...

Just last week, my daughter Olivia learned how to undo velcro by practicing on her new spring sandals. I put her down for naptime like usual. Around the time she normally wakes up I didn't hear anything so I let her rest more....about 20 minutes after that I decide to check on her...she had unvelcroed her BG 3.0, taken off the diaper, had a BM, and rubbed it all over her crib, blanket, herself, wall, etc. It was a terrible mess!!

It isn't really a funny story, at least not funny ha-ha. More like funny to me that someone was having such a hard time wrapping their heads around the concept that the adorable pink thing my daughter was wearing was her diaper. We were at the pediatrician's office for my daughters 9 month checkup (or maybe 6 months, but that isn't really important). At their office, they have you strip the baby down to the diaper for weighing. I took all my daughters clothes off, picked her up, and started walking out to the scale. The nurse gave told me, rather rudely, that I needed to take off everything but the diaper, including the pink thingy she was wearing (her words). I explained that she wears cloth diapers and the pink thingy was indeed her diaper. She kept telling me how I needed to strip her down to her diaper, I kept explaining she was in her diaper, we use cloth. We went round and round for a couple minutes and finally I saw the light bulb go on. It was weird though because every other time I have been at the peds office, the nurses have always seen the cloth diapers and asked me how I like using them and commend me on it.

Last week my 5 year old pointed at a baby in a disposable and asked (loudly) if those were the kind of diapers that ought to be illegal.

I will always remember the moment when I found out my diapers were repelling...my daughter wet and all of the pee just rolled off. And, oh, what a puddle she made!

Our funny CD story to share: We were in Target looking for cloth diapers i had seen online that were on clearance. I figured to check the store first to save on shipping charges. I asked an employee if they had any cloth diapers that I had seen them clearanced online. He says," No. No one uses those things thats why they are clearanced online." I had both boys with me. I was holding the baby and my 4 yr old was standing beside me. My 4 yr old proceeds to pull his brothers pants down and says "Yes we do, see my bubbas cloth tushy." The guy was embarassed b/c he got really red in the face. My 4 yr old then says, "Lets go home mommy and buy the good diapers from a nice person." Poor Target guy.

Okay, so something sort of funny (at least to me) happened to me today pertaining to cloth diapers. I knit my son his first soaker this week and put it on him for the first time today. I wanted to gauge how well it was working, so I just put some babylegs on him with it. They did not match the soaker at all. I brought him downstairs and my husband was excited to see the baby and then picked him up. Then he held him under his arms, all the while the babe is kicking his legs and being happy, and my husband, in a very surprised and exaggerated voice said, "You look RIDICULOUS!"

Apparently I dress my son ridiculously :)

funny story.... baby woke us up at 3am crying, started to change his diaper, however, hubby noticed that the bed was wet too, the baby at that point made a lovely fountain of pee all over the changing table, his head, the dresser drawers and clean clothes....

I don't really have a funny cloth diaper story yet, I just started using them last month.

This is a little amusing and something I will never forget.

And I have to add this as well even though its not specific to cloth diapers. I only have two children so far, 4 yr. old boy and 7 month old girl. The other day we saw a commercial for a brand of disposable diapers and it had a baby boy wearing the diaper. My son said, "Why is the boy wearing a diaper? Only girls wear diapers and boys wear underwear!"
I told him that babies don't know how to go potty on the toilet and that he used to wear diapers too. He just shook his head and didn't believe me!

Before we started using cloth, there was a time when I picked DD#1 up from daycare, and went back to my classroom to finish up grades... she soiled her diaper, so I took it off of her and wrapped her little bottom in paper towels and a receiving blanket for the 45 minute trip home... and my little blessing was kind enough not to soil her makeshift diaper on the way home!

I know I'll never forget the epic poopy diaper from yesterday afternoon. It took an extra 2 red-edged pre-folds just to get my daughter wiped off! Great contest!

I love reading everyone else's funny/embarassing stories. I really wish I had more to rememeber. Remembering is definitely a weak point for me. Hopefully by the end of the week I will have something funny to share.

I new to cloth diapering so I don't really funny stories. I have enjoyed reading the ones that others are posting though. :)

My first attempt at fastening a prefold was quite hilarious (to me) - I could not, for the life of me, get my DS to stay still while I used the snappi - he was wandering around his room with half a diaper on.

Funny stories...your stretching me on this one. One the rare occasion that I put disposables on my diaper she won't let me put them in the trash because that isn't where diapers go. They go in the diaper pail. So I have to throw them away when she's not looking.
