My girls and her dolls

Having two little girls in the house brings a lot of dolls. Where there are dolls there are clothes, or shall I say lack of. Half of the dolls in our home are naked the other half are wearing diapers. Until a month ago these dolls were wearing left over newborn sized diapers from when MacKenzie -my oldest daughter- was a baby. I didn’t feel so bad about using left over diapers, but when they started to wear out I noticed my cloth diapers started to disappear. Where they reappeared was quite confusing to me, until I realized what they were on, the dolls in the house.

That’s when the realization came, "I can do this, I can make cloth diapers". MacKenzie and I headed off to the store in search fabric. Before I even had a pattern, I had an idea and fabric! My first attempt at making cloth diapers didn’t exactly turn out the way I’d hoped, but it worked. As time as went on I’ve adjusted a ton of things, and looking at those first diapers I laugh. The fun part about making cloth diapers for my daughters is that I can pick and choose all the fun colors that I’m not able to with Kaitlynn’s diapers.

Having not cloth diapered with my older children, it was all new to me a year ago. I now feel like an old pro with lots left to learn. MacKenzie likes to take her “baby doll diapers,” as she calls them, to preschool every so often. I enjoy getting comments on them, and enjoy the fact that I’m not throwing away diapers that aren’t even used. Fights happen in my house over the dolls that have fancy diapers on. The ones that remain naked usually are left in the dust.

It’s natural for a home of girls to be filled with dolls, what isn’t is the cloth diapers that go along with them. In our home it is. It is normal that we cloth diaper, it is also normal that my daughters cloth diaper.

Very funny. Just today I told my husband that when my daughter gets a doll it is getting cloth diapers. :)

Lilian was into trucks and cars for the longest time but she's finally starting to like dolls too! It's a nice feeling to see her care for something.

Cute! I only have a boy now, but I'm expecting a girl in two weeks, so I'll be entering the world of dolls.

I think it is such a wonderful idea to teach your daughters about cloth now. I think I am going to take your example and Kylie's baby will have cloth too.

I can TOTALLY relate to all of the naked and half naked dolls all over the house! I have two daughters who are VERY into dolls (DD#3 is only 3 months!)and there always seems to be more dolls than clothes!

But I never let my daughters "waste" sposies on their dolls (even when I wasn't exposed to CD), I would tell them their dolls were already potty trained!I always thought it ridiculous that cabagge patch actually sold sposies for their dolls!

Now that we have entered the world of cloth, I will have to get, make or win some CD for my babies' dolls!

That's great! My 5 year old got a "Baby Alive" doll for Christmas and the 3 disposable diapers that came with it were used up within 15minutes. I told her she was sadly mistaken if she thought I was going to be buying more disposable diapers for a doll! Instead I told her to potty train it. My own attempts at (real)diaper sewing did't go super well, but you've made me realize I could probably manage doll diapers alright. Thanks!

I'm with Amy on the fact that I am the only girl in the house unless you count our new 10 week old pup. So dolls aren't something we have around our place except for my old cabbage patch that my mom sent to me when we were expecting #2. My oldest also tried to breastfeed it "just like mommy". Something I didn't share with Hubby. But maybe #3 who will join us on 5/20 will be a girl and I will get to share my love of cloth through her and her babies.

It's great that cloth diapers are the norm in your house. It would be wonderful if the next generation were brought up seeing cloth as the responsible "normal" choice so that perhaps our daughters wouldn't face the same kind of interrogation we sometimes do for cloth diapering.

Well that was my daughter's contribution!! I love the Cabbage Patch Kids in diapers! We have already bought Nora's for her first birthday present and now I can't wait to get a cloth diaper on her@!

Super cuteness! I have a little boy and just got a boy baby doll as a hand me down, who a this point is naked. I've been thinking about making some clothes for him--maybe I'll just make him some diapers!!!!
