I wore my fist child since he was born. It seemed like an obvious choice. It made my life easier, and I could pretty much go anywhere and do anything. I nursed him wherever and whenever. He's two now, and still love to be close to me. I use an Ergo just because he is heavier. I used the Ultimate Baby Wrap when he was born. I also had a pocket sling, and a ring sling. I'm pregnant again, and the Ergo is getting tough. I miss holding and carrying him. Now it is my husband's job!

With my first daughter, I used the baby bjorn off and on, but I guarantee you that with baby #2 on the way and a 13-month old that will then be 20-months old under foot, I will be using a sling a lot in the coming months!

I have 2 homemade ring slings and absolutely love them. They have been invaluable for shopping, traveling, and just getting little stuff down around the house. My daughter has been able to attend more church functions in the last year (1 year on Thursday) because she calms and is quite happy in them.

Another reason that I wore my son (specifically in the early days) is that the sling I was using did a terrific job of hiding the left-over baby blubber on my belly! Nice perk!

Another reason I love carrying my baby is that it keeps her so close to me. She seems to settle down better when she can be close to my heartbeat, and of course she loves being carried around, but now at 8 months that can be a bit heavy if I don't have her in a good sling.

I wore my 2 older DD's & I currently wear my 3rd DD as well. It started out as necessity to enable me to get things done & tend to my baby's needs simultaneously, but the more I learned about the endless benefits, it became a way of life for both me & DH. Baby wearing led me to seek out other forms of attachment parenting, & our DD's practice it w/their baby sister, as well as their dolls.

PJ said...

I would really like to win this. Carrying one around while trying to hold the other ones hand when you have to stop, hope the walker doesn't bolt and scoot the baby up and repeat. A moby would sooo solve this issue.

So not only do I only have 5 weeks until #3 arrives and desperately crave a Moby wrap but I also have a 4 month old puppy that we are still trying to train not to jump. Today I was visiting with a friend that has a Mei Tei wrap and watched her with her 4 month old and my puppy and it seemed like a great combination, holding her infant high, having her hands free and still keeping our wild puppy down. A Moby Wrap would be great especially since I see myself being a great baby wearing mama than I have in the past.

Kristin said...

Today I remembered that I like to wear my son because it makes doing seemingly simple things that aren't anymore because of a baby- much easier! We checked into a hotel today and DH was at work so the babe and I had to get all of our luggage into the room. Of course you can't travel light with a baby- so it was a lot! So I just put him in the carrier and was able to load, "drive," and unload the luggage cart. Perfect!

One big reason I enjoy babywearing is that it is so much more travel friendly than a stroller! I found it so difficult (the few times I actually used one) to get a stroller through doors and narrow aisles in department stores- much easier with my babe on me!

I have a Peanut Shell, which I use very occassionally. I don't think it was sized to me quite right (like I was between sizes) so I didn't always feel that my daughter was very secure, especially when she was younger. However, when I carry her on my hip, it is much better. I actually need to get a new carrier (or sling, or wrap) because we want to do some hiking this summer and I want something that both my husband and I can comfortably carry our one year old in. I was thinking an Ergo, but now maybe a Moby as well.

Unfortunately, he is getting bigger to that point that it hurst to carry in the baby bjorn. I would love the chance to try a Moby!

I wore my son when he was a baby out of convenience (in a Bjorn), and then tried out a wrap when my daughter was born. What a difference!! I think I'm more of a wrap kind of mom, rather than a rigid carrier, because I *STILL* wear my one year-old girl whenever we go anywhere! We both love how snuggly we feel when we're all wrapped up together - my daughter gets really excited when she sees me tie it on. And I love that it's soft and washes - and dries - so quickly and easily.

Another reason I love wearing my baby is that I think it's safer. I can have her close to me at all times, and there aren't as many people breathing over her as there would be in a stroller (and no potential for her to be accidentally jostled by people's bags or have things spilled on her either). And even in crowded indoor settings I can wear her and have her off the ground.

I'm a baby wearer part-time; my husband is more of a stroller addict. We use the ergobaby carrier ($$$) and he bemoaned spending the money for it. BUT, recently when he traveled with DD, he couldn't stop singing its praises. He said that the carrier was a lifesaver in the airport....One pbm I have with the ergo is since it's shared (and DH and I have diff body types) there's always that adjustment time factor before I can put my lil one in it...The moby might be very handy in this regard.

We have a NoJo sling and it can be very uncomfortable after a while. I would like to try something that won't put my spine out of alignment (has happened and is very painful to have back spasms!!!) Which is why I don't carry my daughter as much as I used to or we both would like.

I wear my 4 month old in a New Native Carrier Sling and a Baby K'tan. The sling is great to use when we are going out on quick trips cause it folds up to the size of a disposable diaper and can fit in my purse or diaper bag easily. The Baby K'tan is great when I am working around the house, washing dishes, or are going to be walking around alot because it is so comfortable and doesn't hurt my back at all! She always wants to be held and this is a great way to keep her close and give me free hands when I need them.

I have somewhat wore my daughter. I first had a baby bjorn that a friend lent me. I am so glad we didn't get one for our shower because it didn't really work out for us. I found it very uncomfortable and my daughter never seemed to really like it. Then I bought a Peanut Shell sling. By this point my daughter was too big to carry totally snuggled, like newborns are. We did the forward facing and in facing kangaroo hold, with varying degrees of success. I think the sling was a little big, so unless I was wearing a sweatshirt, it didn't seem to fit right. I do bring it to the zoo for exhibits where we can't bring the stroller in and wear my daughter on my hip. I need to get something different for hiking this summer. My daughter is one and I want to be able to go hiking. Plus, my husband would be able to wear a Moby wrap (not that he would.)

I wear my daughter (she's 6 1/2 months) using an infantino front-to-back. My husband and I like to take nature walks, and I love to shop, so wearing her is often much more convenient than using a stroller - plus she likes being close to me :). I would love to use the Moby however, because I've heard great reviews about it and how comfortable it is....and the infantino kills my back and shoulders.
