It's a Wrap!

Three years ago when my first son Ian was born I was given a Baby Bijorn carrier. I used it for several months, but once Ian got around 18 lbs or so I stopped using. I found that if he was in it for more than twenty minutes or so, my back and shoulders began to hurt. As time drew near for my second son’s birth last year, I looked around for an alternative carrier. I researched several of the popular styles of slings and wraps and finally decided on The Moby Wrap.

My mother purchased it for me as a gift a few weeks before Brendan was born, so I had a few weeks to play around with it and practice putting it on. It was a little overwhelming at first – the fabric is unbelievably long and putting it on with a nine month pregnant belly presented a bit of a challenge. I kept working with it, and by the time my little Brendan was born, I was able to put it on correctly, quickly and without any problems. As a newborn, I used the cradle hold all the time. He felt like I was holding him tightly, and he could easily hear the soothing sound of my heartbeat. I was able to get things done around the house, vacuum, etc. all while he was comfortably asleep.

As he grew older and was able to hold up his head better, I transitioned first to the Hug Hold, and then to the Lotus Hold.

I’ve worn my Moby wrap everywhere. The zoo, museums, the airport, the grocery store…you name it. It’s incredibly comfortable, even now that Brendan is 24 lbs. I can’t begin to count how many people have asked me about The Moby Wrap - and how many moms and pregnant woman have jotted down the name of it to look up when they got home. I sure wish I had been selling these things – I could have sold a dozen or more in the past year just by simply wearing it around town. Anyone with a baby, or who is expecting a baby, needs to try a Moby Wrap. My life this past year with two little ones wouldn't have been as easy without it.

I could not agree more. I am totally jealous that you had yours before your baby was born. My daughter was four months old when we got ours.

I am really hoping to try a wrap with this next babe! I love my mei tai, but think that wraps just look so snuggly!

What a little cutie!!! I love the idea/look of the Moby wrap! Can't wait to have another little one, so we can get one ourselves!

It's always nice to hear from other moms about the products they like.

I've never really used a moby, only a mei tai and a soft structured carrier. I'd be curious to see how this compares.

we took our 4 month old son out in the Moby this weekend for his first trip to the zoo! It was great - even though he slept through the whole thing!

I've been thinking about the Moby wrap--I haven't tried it yet, but I think I may get one still.

I've never tried the Moby but I'm glad to hear you still like it with a bigger baby. I've heard mixed reviews about it once the baby gets bigger, so I've been unsure about trying it out now that my baby (he's still a baby! He IS!) is over 22 lbs. I might have to try it now ;)

I am hoping to find a wrap that I like to carry my new little girl with. I am leaning towards the Moby Wrap so this information was wonderful!

I'm glad you're enjoying the Moby. I found babywearing fairly soon after my daughter was born (now 10 months) but didn't wrap when she was little. I've heard lots of good things about wrapping and when we decide to have another babe, a stretchy wrap will definately be in my collection!

I never tried a wrap although I used a ring sling constantly....it is fun to see one in use!

I love, love, love my moby! My little man does too! He'll ride for hours in it!

I was given an Ultimate Baby Wrap at my shower (before I knew anything about any of the carriers!) It has been working really great for us. Have any of used both the Moby and the Ultimate Baby Wrap?? I would love a comparison from someone that has actually USED both.

I agree--you do get tons of comments with the Moby! Last week I was walking to the grocery store and a soon-to-be parents were watching me from their convertible while stopped at a red light. The guy leaned over to his pregnant wife and said, "Hey honey, you need one of those things she's got strapped on." If the light hadn't turned green, I think I would have given them the details but at least I was a "walking advertisement" (literally)

I too loved my Moby Wraps... sadly I had sold them after I no longer needed when my second little one grew too old. I nearly ordered a few more after Ilyas was born but he was a contented baby in his swing or bouncy seat and he really didn't want to be carried all the time like my oldest daughter did!

Great post!

Hi Sara!

I haven't used both the Ultimate Baby Wrap AND the Moby Wrap... they clearly look like the same thing - but I do know that Moby was the "original" version of this type of wrap (using cotton knit jersey).

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

I was planning on borrowing a friends MOBY for my next baby (due in early december!!) but she swapped it on diaper swappers! So Now, I'm going to buy one. I have a hotsling, which is great for being out and about, but the moby is nice for long time use.

That little guy looks so happy all wrapped up. Love that it can be used forward facing like that.

Well I have been pondering which wrap to try when we eventually have baby # 2 because as much a I love my Maya Wrap w/ the hip carry I was never successful with the cradle carry because my DD was so long and It seemed like it was bending her neck in all kinds of weird positions. The Moby is something I REALLY want to try w/ baby #2. (I have SO many mental notes for when we have the next baby....lol)

Thanks for the update Serena...I figure that when I have a second baby, I will need a second wrap sooo I will certainly go with the Moby!
