In love with my Imse Vimse Swim Diapers...

I had one swim diaper that I got when my oldest started getting on the water at 6 months old to save money. I would always use that diaper under her bathing suit (it wasnt cute enough to be uncovered), and when I needed, I would use disposables swimming diapers... By that time, I was a full time disposable diaper user, which Im 100% was because nobody ever mentioned me cloth diapers...

That same cloth swim diaper was used by my second daughter, and then my third daughter. However, it was not working fine with my third daughter. My first two daughters were very chubby, however my youngest is very skinny... It was too bulky to put it under her tiny bathing suits, and it was too ugly to use it by itself (Ok, I have to be fair, it was not *that* ugly... I just think that it may have looked better on a boy).

Anyway, I was planning a weekend away, plus a 7 days vacations the following week with my hubby and girls, so I decided to order a couple of Imse Vimse swimming diapers from Kelly’s Closet and get a top for them.. .They looked soooo cute that I didnt want to cover them!!

We decided to get a solid red and a Turquoise Sea Animals, both in size large. My daughter is very skinny and very petite. As she was 23 pounds, I decided to go with the large size. When I first got them I thought they were soooooooo small that wouldnt fit her. I was wrong!! They not only fit her, but Im also 100% sure that the medium size would have been better for her. Im sure the large size would be perfect for a chubby 23 pounder, but if you have a very skinny child like mine that is 23 pounds or under, you may want to consider the medium size.

My middle girl is also petite but chubby. She was around 32 pounds, and even though she is already potty trained, I decided to try the Imse Vimse swimming diapers on her, and they actually fit her. I would still have gotten an Extra Large for her if she needed one, but the large size still fit.

Both of my daughters were very comfortable on their swim diapers, and even though I didnt want to cover them, they are trim enough to cover them... Even with a tiny swimming pant....

I also wanted to mention that they dry VERY fast, however I dont think it would have been that easy with only one diaper... We managed just fine with two, but I think three diapers would have been just perfect.

So cute! It'll be awhile before we need swim diapers, maybe by then they'll sell matching tops. I think I've seen some swim diapers plus matching tops made by WAHM seamstresses, though...

What a beautiful beach! I wanna go! Lake Michigan just isn't the same - too cold... I bought a IV swim diaper for my youngest when we went to Florida in February and loved it. It fit great and I'm anxious to use it again this summer when we get the kiddie pool out.

I've always wondered about swim diapers. When researching them, I saw raves about how they hold messes in, but what about urine?

My kids are often in a position to use a pool or hot tub, but let's be honest, no one wants urine in the water. Do swim diapers fix this? Is there really anything to be done or is my youngest confined to dry land until further notice?

I'm looking into buying some swim diapers myself this summer. Although we have a ton of the sposie ones so we may use them. Still undecided, but thank you for the review! Atleast now I have an idea on which ones to try! :)

How do they do with keeping sand away from baby's bottom? I'm planning on taking my will be 8 month old to the beach this summer, but probably not into the water. I don't think his BGs will keep out the sand while he's playing, and I'm just really worried about that. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip on sizes!

Thanks so much for your post! Your pictures are adorable, and the sizing advice is really helpful for me since my baby was right on the edge of two sizes :)

Great to know the sizes seem a tad big for skinny kiddos. Thanks for the review.

Those are great!! Thanks for the information! The diapers are so cute. My boys are on the thinner side, so I think these would work perfectly for them.

Anyone have photos of boys in the swim diapers? I would love to see them on boys!

I ordered one of these last week and can't wait to try it out on my son when the pools open! Didn't think about needing more than one--oops! Definitely should look into that...

I have one swim diaper but I really want at least two more and I wish I had not bought a swimsuit I should have just gotten a matching shirt for the diaper.

First of all, thanks for the compliments on my daughters... =)

eidolons: Swim diapers wont hold urine... The main reason why a baby cant use a regular diaper that hold urine is because it will also hold the pool or beach water and the diaper will get HUGE!!!!

simplestorm: I dont think any swim diaper will keep the sand 100% out of your baby's bottom. However, I can tell you that the best fit you get, the less sand will be inside the diaper.... How much does your baby weights?? Is he chubby or not??

Katie: You will have your wish... Stay tuned!

Kelly: Your baby can have a make a huge mess during the first half hour during the beach time... The easier is to have another one on hand so he can continue enjoying his/her time.....

Jessiem23: The blue one was from a bikini and the pink one was from a tankini... I know there are a few places where you can mix and match tops....The best thing to do is to go to your local mall and check a few places out....

Cute pics! I may have to work on getting these into our budget! Luckily our 2 oldest are PT and our youngest is a newborn, so I'll have some time before she goes swimming!

I'm new to cloth diapering so I've never tried swim diapers. But I'll definitely be giving them a try on our summer vacation!

Thanks for sharing. Cute kiddos! I'm in the process of convincing my husband that we will go swimming enough to justify buying a swim diaper :D I too would love to see some swim diapers on boys since Im the only girl in the house so far.

I can't wait to take my daughter swimming in her swim diapers (one just a diaper, and the other a set with built in diaper). Every time we plan to go to the health club pool someone gets sick. I want to show off her cloth swimmers.

Its great to hear about swim diapers! I had never even thought about them before I decided to CD. Now I will have to get a couple!

You aren't supposed to cover these are you? (Just curious.) Also, will Kelly's Closet stock the matching tankinis eventually? I like the imse vimse swim diapers with the matching tankinis for my girls. Just curious! Thanks for the informative post - I think we'll have to take the plunge and test out a swim diaper this summer!

I'm so glad that you posted about these! We've been wanting to try them.

I'm glad to hear your reviews of swim diapers. I need to get some for my daughter soon. I want some that will fit under her bathing suit.

I was going to buy another Bummis swim diaper, but Kelly's closet was out. But after reading the posts about the Imse Vimse diaper, I think that I will get that one instead of waiting for a re-stock!
And as always, your girls are adorable!

I love reusable diapers of any kind! Especially swim kind! Those swim disposables are so wasteful!

Sara said...

Thanks for the details. I definitely need to try one of these. I have one swim diaper, but it isn't great and there is NO way I am wasting my money on disposable ones!

i've been debating swim diapers. i don't really like any of the colors of bummis or imse vimse (though white would maybe due, lol). iplay has a swim diaper too and there are tons of others out there. i just read some bad reviews. I was thinking to just use my BG without stuffing.
