We use Purex Free Clear. I know it's not recommended because of the brighteners, but we've had no problems after 18 months of washings. I really wish there were other cloth approved options readily available in our area.

I use Kirkland environmentally friendly detergent from Costco. It works really well and is well priced. According to Costco it "features biodegradable cleaning agents and plant based formulas; contains no phosphates, dyes, optical brighteners or bleaches." So it seems like a good choice.
