Coordinating an Outfit To Match Your Cloth!

This is not something I readily admit in mixed company, but in this forum I can let my cloth diaper obsession shine: the clothing I choose for my daughter is heavily influenced by her cloth diapers. I’m not talking sizing and fit, that’s just normal common sense, no I’m talking colors. Does this item match her diapers? Are there multiple diaper color options to go with this item? Will it only match the solid diapers or will it work with her patterns as well? Crazy? Maybe. Fun? Oh, yes! So you can only imagine how excited I was with this find…I have found, what I call, the Bum Genius dress!

If I didn’t know any better I would have thought this dress was designed, manufactured and sold by Bum Genius. It has stripes of four different colors: light pink, dark pink, green and orange, but they might as well be called Blossom, Zinnia, Ribbit and Clementine. The stripes are exact matches for the Bum Genius colors. I so look forward to the warmer weather when she can wear just a sundress and a diaper and this dress is exactly why. I am guaranteed throughout the day with multiple diaper changes that she is always going to match perfectly and adorably. I wonder if anyone at Bum Genius has noticed this dress and the striking color resemblance.

I know this sounds incredibly silly and ridiculous, and I admit it is, but it makes diapering fun. Before I used cloth, diapers were obviously necessary, but incredibly boring. Now I just love putting them on her and showing them off. On a more practical note, though, showing people how cute they can be is a great stepping off point for talking about cloth (something of which I never tire). I’m always so surprised at people’s preconceived, old-fashioned ideas of cloth and love dishing out the truth. Having them in plain sight shows people how user friendly, modern and adorable cloth diapers are now. And it doesn’t hurt to make a fashion statement while saving the planet one diaper at a time!

Not only do I coordinate her outfits around what diapers she wears, but I dress myself in colors that complement her. Every photo on my iphone is stunningly pre-conceived. I'm terrible.

My daughter has that same dress! AND, I must admit that I match my son's cloth diaper to his outfit, especially when going out of the house :)

I am exactly the same way! I have a mini polka dot dress with all colors that match my BumGenius diapers perfectly! I choose dresses over onesies for my infant to show off the diapers - every time. I don't get that many comments, even though I long for them! And lately, responses have been about how good disposables are for the environment......what??? how can anyone be serious about that! guilt shift!

I am the same way with my son! I always choose an outfit that matches his cloth! I'll admit to outfit changes too, just to make sure he matches!

I do think about what colors will go with her outfits... although sometimes I don't care! I'm trying to pick colors for my stash so they'll go with a variety of clothing.

I do my best to match, but my stash is still fairly small, so it makes it difficult. I do try though! I was really bummed yesterday to find all her pink diapers in the wash and the dress she had on for church had pink polka dots. My only diaper options were yellow, so I put a white cover over. I'm a stickler for matching, so sadly I had to cover the cute BG!

I loved matching my daughter outfit with a diaper! People always commented and it was fun to get to share that I was cloth diapering.

With my son it is going to be a bit harder to show them off.

lol @LosingBrownies...

I was about ot ask how you would match with a son... outfit changes would definitely do it :P

my son prefers not to wear pants and could go without a top if it was warm... but it is getting cooler so baby legs or pants with a top :)

I wish I had more variety in diapers, and I might. I only have white, beige, blue, and green, and normally that doesn't go wtih what we have in the way of clothes. But, i do let my daughter pick her fitted (used as a trainer) when we are out. Normlaly she goes with orange (we have green, orange, yellow, and natural).

Loving it! We do the same thing! I too think of it as not only coordinating the outfit, but showcasing the cloth diaper. My daughter is a walking cloth diaper billboard! We never use the little matching cover-up bloomers for wear with dresses any more...who needs them!? Cloth diapers are TOO cute! Great post & pics. :)

I try to match my son's outfits to his diapers as well. I had a few shirts that "needed" a brown diaper. I was obsessed with finding a great deal on few brown diapers- i now have 2, and I LOVE them. (I hide them at the bottom of our stash so my husband doesn't use them with the "wrong" outfit!!)

MelissaBL...I coordinate with my son when we go out for errands! Not to mention his dipe coordinates, even if you can't see it! :) I must admit I'm caving more and more into baby legs...I haven't made a purchase yet...

I have the same dress and yes, I did notice that it coordinates perfectly with most of my BG! I wish that my dd could still fit into it!

I want a bumgenius dress!! My second baby isnt born yet (any day now) but as I was putting away all her little clothes in her armoir I couldnt help but to think "yes! this will match those diapers, and this will match that one." :)

That dress is perfect!!

Coordinating outfits with girls is way easier then with boys. Unfortunately I can rarely show off his ccute fluff when out and about- but when we're at home watch out!! Cloth only, or cloth, tshirt, and babylegs if we must! I love matching clothes!!

When deciding what colors of diapers to purchase, I must admit that the main factor in the decision was based on what color matched the bulk of the clothes I had already received. That dress is so cute...definetly need to find one for my little girl.
