Ok, so I don't have any cloth diapering stories of my own yet. Our little one is due in January, but my mom used cloth diapers with me and I would always hear stories about how the dog would pull them off the clothes line.

So you know how you have to dump poop from cloth diapers into the toilet? Well, my son is at the "I want to do everything myself stage". And we're going through potty learning. On more than one occasion, I've taken off his dry diaper and put him on his potty chair, only to have him leap up, grab the diaper, run to the bathroom, and throw it in the toilet!

I cloth diaper my own baby, but a while ago I was babysitting for a friend who used disposables. When my 4 year old saw that baby's diaper she started laughing like crazy and said "Look, her diaper is made of paper! That's so silly...and kind of gross!" She'd seen plenty of disposable diapers before, but for some reason the stupidity of it just suddenly struck her that day.

My husband has unenthusiastically joined me in cloth diapering our son. Refusing to listen to my CD tutorial, my husband was actually putting on pocket diaper with no inserts one day while I was out! It was a disaster and it took several months for him to appreciate cloth diapers.

Cloth diapers have come a long way since I put them on my oldest 23 years ago. I always hated folding them.

While at Mommmy & Me one day, the subject of cloth diapers came up. I had a pocket diaper in my bag and passed it around the group. The ladies were amazed and asked me numerous questions. I think I may have converted some people to cloth diapers that day!

My husband was against cloth diapers from the beginning. I think it was because he was clueless and it seemed a little daunting to him. Anyway, we began only using prefolds and flats and silly me never thought my husband might not understand how to use them. I let him babysit while I ran to the grocery store. When I got back it looked like my son was in a skirt! He had wrapped the diaper around my son instead of back to front! Good thing he didn't pee!

ok upon changing a diaper my husband decided to lay it out on the new pile----I went and grabbed a beautiful cold sopping wet one without looking and slapped it over my shoulder to use as a birth cloth- learned look before you todd it over--peeeu

My favorite cloth diapering story involved my mother-in-law. She watches my baby while I go to school. Well, when I decided to start CDing about a month before she was due to start watching Seth, I was unsure how she was going to do with it. She CD'd her kids because the disposables were awful back then, but she's said numerous times that she enjoys the disposables more now (she has some other grandkids). So, when I told her and showed her, I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, lo and behold, she loves them! Coincidently, I use mostly (and she only uses) the Wahmies OS and she thinks they're great!

Anyway, the story I'm trying to get to is that she shows EVERYONE these diapers! People come over who don't really know much about babies or don't even care and she says, "Hey, have you seen these diapers??!" People usually humor her and look at them, but it's funny because you can tell they couldn't care less. But I'm glad she likes them and is spreading the word that CDs have changed!

I just started cloth diapering my 6 month old twins and I don't really have any funny stories but I do have to say I had no idea how much better I feel every time I put a soft cloth diaper on my babies. Now when I have to put a disposable on them for church I almost feel sad. It feels so thin and harsh. I don't think we will ever go back!

We had girls first, so we got lots of very girly diapers. When my son was born, he wore the same diapers. Yes, my little boy crawled around with fairies and ballerinas on his bum. My mother and mother-in-law thought this was HORRIBLE and that I was somehow warping him. So I just made sure to send even more pictures where his pretty lacy diapers were on display. I laughed and they eventually shut up.

I wouldn't have been able to have that much fun with disposables. :-)

My 9yo helps by changing my baby's diapers sometimes. One time he changed her and I was still drying the inserts, so he just put the diaper on with no insert. No I was not home and yes it still held the pee and poo. What great diaper BumGenius's are:)

Kelly said...

When I decided to start cloth diapering, many people, including my husband, were very skeptical. And I still have some friends who think I am crazy. But for the most part, I am some sort of fascination with my diapers that you wash. LOL. I think the funniest thing that happened was I showed them to my mom and she thought they were really cool. Then we were at a party, and I went into the other room for a minute, and when I came back my mom was sitting on the floor surrounded by her friends with my diaper bag open, diapers out, inserts pulled out, showing everyone what a long way cloth diapers have come since she used them on me almost 30 years ago! And a lot of people still don't get that you don't need covers with some!

Not too long ago we were in my insurance agents office signing papers for life insurance. Since both my husband and I had to be there we had both of our kids with us. Our two year old was running around being a typical 2 year old. Luckily he has 2 young children of his own so he didn't care. at one point he even held her on his lap. when we got out to the car we noticed her diaper had leaked and her pants were soaking wet. we could only imagine that his pants were wet too.

We were in his office the other day and decided to ask him if his pants were wet last time. Sure enough, she had gotten his nice dress pants all wet! OOPS! (he was kind and didn't care since he has a 2 year old too though!)

I haven't been at this long enough to have any really hilarious stories, but I really get a kick out of how my toddler talks about her cloth diapers. I remember the first time I put a minkee diaper on her. She giggled and said "Soft!" She often requests the purple diapers. And she thinks snappis are the funniest thing. I had to buy a whole bunch of them because she kept running off with them and hiding them. She never paid any attention to her disposables, so it's an unexpected benefit of using cloth to see her consciously enjoying the diapering aspect of her reality.

I have the very best husband ever! I haven't shared this on my blog yet, as I am afraid it will deter potential cd'ers- anyway, on our last trip home and our first time home as cd'ers, our little guy got sick. He had a pretty yucky virus. Not thinking that he might have a blowout or anything while we were driving, I didn't carry any liners or use a liner in the diaper he was wearing. Plus, his poop has been a pleasant peel away type lately! Anyway, when we stopped half way and changed him- it was all over the diaper. My husband took the diaper into the gas station and rinsed it out with his hands in the sink. (I know someone is loving that thought about now!) Point is- he rinsed it enough to keep it from ruining the diaper for the 4-5 more hours we had left to go and never once complained about it. But now, he makes sure that the cd has a liner!

I'm about to have my first child, but I have had crazy experience with cloth-diapering the kid I babysit for. While changing his diaper, his dog sniffed the diaper, then rolled it's face into the mess. From that point on, I made sure the dog was at a safe distance when changing diapers.

I don't have any personal cloth diapering stories yet- we are due in February- but I have heard about the endless uses for prefolds. She doesn't quite understand these "new style" cloth diapers that I keep telling her about. 30 years later my mom still has some old fashioned white prefolds around and regularly uses them for dusting!

We've been using cloth since July. I had been leery about using them for church, so I continued to put my daughter in disposables every week before taking her to the nursery. Finally, I decided to try putting her in a Fuzzibunz for church...the nursery staff LOVES them. We are now 100% cloth...all the time.

I was rinsing a poop covered diaper in the toilet. It was a difficult one, so I decided to flush the toilet in hopes that the suction would help remove the poop. It turns out that I did not have a good grip on the diaper and down it went - poop and all. Fortunately, it did not lead to any plumbing problems....at least not yet!!

Back in the day, when we used the archaic "pin and pre-fold with rubber pants" method, I was shocked to discover a shiny bright dime in the middle of a lovely poop in my son's diaper. I never even knew he swallowed it! Yes, I dug it out. A penny pinched is a penny earned, and a dime squeals louder.

Now I am a grandma, converting as many of the younger generation to CD's as I can. They make great shower gifts!!

When I originally decided to cloth diaper - I knew I wanted to use prefolds in the early weeks. However, not knowing what I'd like best - I decided to find some used prefolds to see which I prefered best (Chinese vs Indian - bleached vs unbleached). I found a local mama who was selling a dozen unbleached IPF. After picking them up I was sooooo excited to start using them. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out why they were so BIG. They had already been prepped - but these pf's were HUGE. I thought this was the premie/infant size (at least that's what I thought her listing said) and being new to CD I didn't know exactly how big PF's are supposed to be for each size. For DAYS I tried to make these prefolds work to no avail. When I went back to email the mama who sold them to me - I discovered these weren't "premies" size - they were "premium" size
(which explains why they were so HUGE). I was probably so tired I misread the size.

I started CDing my daughter when she was 14 months (and kick myself for not starting earlier). I was a little short on CDs in the beginning. After about 6 weeks, I hadn't kept up with laundry and I had to pull out a sposie to put on her overnight. She HATED IT! We use FuzziBunz and they're SOOOO soft and cozy inside! I can just imagine she was saying "get this nasty paper thing off me!!!!!!" It was a challenge to get her jammies on as she kept undoing the diaper and trying to pull it off... Good thing I got more and never run out before laundry day now!

When my first batch of prefolds arrived in the mail, my twins were fast asleep for their nap. Not wanting to wake them, but DYING to try out the fluff, I found a teddy bear and practiced folds for an hour! As soon as they woke up, I had them try everything on. And of course, they were adorable. ;)

After using disposables on my first child for whatever reason I decided to check into CDing. When I realized how cool the cloth diapers were, I really had no reason not to switch. So, my husband, not sure what to think said "fine then." For the most part he likes it.
When I tried to get my daycare provider to use them at daycare the two days a week that my two children are there, she said she wouldn't do it because "it is not sanitary and what will she do with the wipes." I didn't really understand this argument and had plenty of answers for her but, opted not to fight her since it took 4 different daycares before we found one we were comfortable with!

I don't have anything that exciting, except that normally when I am taking off a dirty diaper it takes me some time to get a new diaper on (laziness..the cloth diapers are stored upstairs in her bedroom) and so we often have pooping and peeing on the floor when I leave her to go nekky too long.

We have cloth diapered since my oldest son was an infant. WE've always tried to let him help with his own clean-up and now that he's two and a half he will get up in the morning, remove his own diaper, wipe his own behind, put all that in the diaper pail then open the drawer to find some underwear to put on. I know this sounds great but it often looks like poop on the floor, wipes scattered about the room and a completely naked child except for the backwards briefs

OOO pick me :)! DS LOVES his cloth diapers! When we made the switch he was used to poop in EVERY cookie monster disposable. He decided that he needed to start pooping in his cow print HH when we switched. There were a couple others he would go in too and there were also some (I think all of the yellow BG diapers I had) that would be completely dry after 2-3 hours. My other funny "thing" is that I have to hang dry my diapers on hangers up and down my banisters by my front door. Every time anyone comes over it starts a discussion but so far no converts :(

at a free infant massage class, i noticed that the mommy next to me was using cloth diapers when she reached over to change her little girl. i watched as she pawed through her diaper bag in search of her wetbag to throw her (very dirty) diaper into--to no avail. it seemed she'd forgotten it at home. i quickly rummaged through my bag and pulled out a spare, handing it over to her as she continued to search for something--anything--to put the diaper into. needless to say she was totally grateful, and took my number to give the bag back to me at another time. well, we became fast friends not long after! has anyone ever bonded over a disposable diaper? i doubt it!

My mom had a good cloth diaper story-she was cleaning poopie off a diaper into the toilet when she accidently hit the flush handle-this was in a trailer and the toilet was really small, so she reached in to pull out the diaper and got her hand stuck in the toilet-she screamed until the neighbors came and had to pull her arm out of the toilet.

One hot afternoon back in the summer I put my 1 year old down for a nap. It was so hot that I just put him in a t-shirt and cloth dipaer. When he woke up, I heard him squealing and playing in his bed. I went into his room to get him only to find him standing up naked as a "jay-bird" with his diaper laying on the floor. The little stinker had taken it off! Thankfully he was dry and so was his bed. He was so excited that he had taken off his diaper himself. Needless to say, I make sure he has some kind of pants on before putting him down for his naps.

We use cloth because my ds has allergy/rash issues with most disposables, including G diapers inserts. I hadn't tried anything remotely disposable since he was 5 mos old and he is now 2yrs old. Recently, we found out we'll have to leave the kids w/my parents for a week while we are on a trip for dh's business. I didn't want my mom to be stuck w/washing diapers if she didn't have to, so I decided to try some chlorine-free/environmentally friendly disposables.

For one day, those are the diapers he used. His latest enjoyments include climbing on things and jumping off. As he launched himself into the air from the coffee table, he landed with a loud "whump!" on the floor on his butt. He looked very startled, got up, grabbed his poor behind and said "ow, hurt butt." ROTFL, since he totally wasn't expecting the lack of padding (kinda felt bad about that one).

BTW, he did ok in the disposables that day and did fine all night in one, so hopefully it'll be ok at g'ma's house ;).

i'm pregnant with #2 and am beyond excited to use cloth diapers and wipes!!

with my son, we didn't use cloth, mostly b/c i was clueless about them. i just assumed they were the "old school" version of cloth diapers. oh how wrong i was!

so 4 1/2 years later, i'm actually doing the research (and becoming slightly obsessed with learning all about cloth diapers)!!

i'm just starting to order a variety of diapers (i'm due in late march) and can't wait for my baby girl to be born so i can try them out.

good luck everyone! (but i hope i win :)

After we switched to cloth, I only used disposables when my son had a diaper rash. Apparently, I've scarred him for life because of it. I forgot to do laundry once, and ran out of diapers. When I tried to put a disposable on him, he ran away yelling "No diaper rash diaper! Plain one!"

He eventually agreed when I showed him numbers of cost for diapers for the life of 1 child...now that she is going to be 5 months in 3 days (she was born june 16th) he goes through his life trying to convince other parents to cloth diaper! He has randomly brings home people he works with trying to convince them to cloth diaper. He even stood up at his cousins wedding reception in August to try and convince everyone with babies to cloth diaper....He loves them! And thanks to cloth diapers our little one has the cutest little bum in Nebraska!

When I was pregnant with my first, I ordered some cloth diapers. My parents weren't sure they would like using cloth diapers. I think they had the image of the pin kind from when I was a baby. When the diapers came, I made them practice on one of the baby's stuffed animals whenever they were at our house. That way they wouldn't be lost when they were babysitting. They figured it out quickly and we all love them now.

When I was pregnant, I started telling people about my plans to cloth diaper. I was surprised by all of the negativity and skepticism that I encountered. Several people laughed and made comments like, "good luck with that" or "that'll last for 2 weeks, tops!" I'm proud to report that 3 months later, we're still going strong! And all of those naysayers have seen the diapers and have been thoroughly impressed!
