2 or more on diapers: Tips by Nancy H.

It has taken me a little while to figure out what works best with cloth diapering 2 – my oldest is 22 months and my youngest is 8 months. I finally came up with a great plan that does the trick for my family.

My laundry room is across from the boys bathroom so I keep the diaper pail right inside that door so after a quick spray from the wonderful diaper sprayer ( I can’t imagine how I made it so long without one) I just take a few steps and it’s in the laundry room. I would highly recommend having at least 2 large diaper pail liners/bags. I only had one for a while and it wasn’t the best. Once I got my second one – I placed the dirty one in the wash with the diapers and the other was immediately placed in the pail and ready for more dirty diapers. (I used to just put the dirty ones in a big tub while waiting for the one and only diaper liner to wash and then air dry.)
I have enough diapers to do laundry every other day – with a few exceptions. The boys are almost in the same size for all the diapers except for a few of the AIO’s and the BG’s that we use for nighttime. Once the diaper are clean and dry I usually just throw all the clean diapers on top of the washing machine and fold them and put them in the boys room’s right away or as soon as I can. It goes with my personality of why do later what I can get down now and can cross off my list.

Each boy has a spot in his room for where the clean diapers are kept– I stuff all the pocket diapers and make up all the prefold’s with covers after they are dry so all I have to do is go and grab when it’s diaper changing time, that way I’m not trying to either stuff or lay a prefold out on a cover with a squirmy one on the changing table. Honestly – it doesn’t take that much more time at all and it might sounds crazy but I would rather stuff pockets or fold up prefold’s then fold baskets of regular laundry. Our system works so well that even daddy does diaper laundry too.

I agree with having 2 diaper pail liners. I use simple mesh laundry bags that are cheap, but man, having 2 makes a big difference! your kiddos are cuties :o)

I remember how nice it was when my two moved into the same size of cloth diapers. My oldest is potty trained now, thankfully, but I'll have two in diapers again when baby 3 arrives in a month or so.

Daddy helps out with folding prefolds and wipes in our house :)

Looks pretty good to me. I used to have just one pail liner and it is so not enough. The two is so much better!!! And I stuff as I take mine off the line (as long as I can). I would MUCH rather stuff diapers than fold regular laundry. :) Thanks for the tips - number two (in diapers - three over all) is coming soon.

Glad she found what works best for her family. Cute boys by the way! I only have one in diapers and I still wash every other day.

You make it sound so simple... thanks! I think I definitely need another pail liner. When mine is in the wash I put dirty diapers in the lid which is turned upside down in the pail, it inevitably falls and dirty diapers spill everywhere. :)

I love the looks into laundering routines - I still am not entirely happy with mine. I am also interested in people's takes on the diaper sprayer: we currently use a spatula and I am trying to decide if a sprayer is worth the investment.

I'm curious, do you pin your prefolds?

I have 2 in diapers as well (both girls) and almost same ages - I have 21 months and 5 months old. I agree w/ 2 diaper pail liners - I only have 1 right now and would LOVE a second - I think it would make things so much easier : )

I have 2 all day in diapers and 3 at night...so I completely understand!

I just ordered a second bag myself. It was getting annoying just having one and having to wait for the one I had to finish because I was trying to avoid putting dirty dipes into the actual pail.

I have to say, I personally really enjoy washing my diapers. I have always enjoyed laundry in general, so washing my diapers are an extra special treat.

I will soon have 2 in diapers, so reading posts like this is encouraging to me...since everyone in my life ASSUMES I will use disposables on the second baby to make my life "easier".

No- I don't pin my prefolds - nor do I use Snappi's. I fold the back of the prefold (slightly) then do the angel fold ( I think that's what it's called). I use Thirsties covers - and find with the prefold folded that way everything stays in place.

I could use a second pale liner for sure. I still only have 1 but I have found it easy to wash it and hang it on the door nob when it's done and I put dirty diapers in there right away while it is drying. Seems to work decent for me.

I just started having 2 in dipes. A 20 month old and now 1 month old. And even though I have upped my diaper laundry to almost every day vs. every other or every 3 days, it is not that much more work. And I love doing dipe laundry much more that regular laundry any day.

I had 3 in diapers at once not too long ago now since I have 3 kids 3 and under :) Washed diapers every day and 2 pail liners was essential! Prefolds and OS diapers make the best of 3 in cloth at once.

Sounds like I need to buy some pail liners, I don't have any, so I scrub my pail all the time.
