I Am A Diaper Addict

So, I keep my stash (or well, my daughter's stash) of diapers in the bottom drawer of her dresser. I used to keep them in baskets on her changing table but I ran out of room over there. I have too many diapers. There are 53 of them. Why in the world do I need 53 diapers? Well, partially because I love them and so I always want more. Partially because I love trying new ones and so whenever I am given the opportunity I get something new. And partially because I want one in every color of my favorite diapers. So, I end up with lots of them.

So, which are my favorites? Well, my number one favorite is the BumGenius 3.0. I first bought them to use for overnights and I fell in love. Now they are my go to diaper. I love them for overnights because no matter how long she sleeps they never leak. Not one single time. No matter what she is always dry in the morning (and she sleeps up to twelve hours most nights). And then during the day they are super trim which I love. I hate bulky diapers. Plus, I just love those new colors the BumGenius come in. I just bought a Ribbit one and it looks so cute on her!!

Next, I really love the GroBaby for when we are out. I can carry so many of them when we go out for an entire day. In my diaper bag I have six of them and can still fit so many other things. My Moby, my camera and all of my other paraphernalia. And that will carry me through from around nine or ten (about as early as I can get myself out and about) until after dinner. Now, granted I am not usually out that long but for when I have to be the GroBabys are so amazing!!!

And lastly I am a big fan of the Thirsties All-In-Ones. My husband says they are like cheating. They are so easy. Just go right on and they are super trim. All good things. I think they are pretty much my husband's go to diaper. I am very fond of them but he LOVES them.

Now, of course, I have a bunch of others in my stash as well. I have a few FuzziBunz (both the One Size and the perfect fit), an Applecheeks, a few WAHM diapers (even super cute ones I had made with the NY Rangers logo on the backside), and a few Happy Heinys. I know I am an addict. I want to try all the diapers I can. I just keep picking up new ones when the opportunity arises.

Ha ha! Hello. My name is Cari and I, too, have a diaper addiction.
Who needs a shoe collection when you can have cloth diapers?!
Thanks for the cute post. I needed that this morning. :)

My stash is starting to grow also. Glad I'm not the only addict. :)

I am such a CD addict now!

This. Yes, and we only have some 20 that lil man can wear! But its such an addiction. I still dream in diapers (fluffies) these days!

I joke with my husband that cloth diapers should come with a warning "Highly Addictive!"

im about to buy 50+ more diapers (for $25, can you believe it?) sure they need some work, but i dont mind doing it!

i too love the bg 3.0's i didnt think it would be such a big deal to me, i thought prefolds would suffice, but omgoodness i have fallen in love with those diapers! i love my prefolds still too, though.

I am also an addict, and I don't even have a baby to diaper yet!

The only drawback to cloth diapering:)

I'm a little too cash-strapped to buy all those types right now, but I do love sewing all sorts of cute colors and types of diapers and I hope to gradually add different types to my stash! It seems like some people like to have all one type for simplicity and some people like a little of everything for different situations- I think I'm the latter.

At first I had just enough to get us through one day...now I have 32 in a drawer and more on my I-want-to-try-it list! This is ridiculously addicting (but my baby's bum is so cute!).

HAHA you are a FREAK! but uhhhhh mine looks the same now that I have the opportunity of testing diaps out! My name is Jessica & I too am a cloth diaper addict! (hehe love ya)

Happy to read a post by UpstateMomof3! I am definitely an addict, too, but don't want a recovery program...yet!

Whenever my husband complains about my addiction I point out that 50 a month on new cloth is still MUCH cheaper than disposible!

I'm also addicted to CDs! Like Cari C, I used to have plenty of shoes. My DH just smiles when I mention about CD!

I haven't started my collection yet but I can see how easily it is to get addicted! I'm still trying to decide which diaper to start with, and I've been leaning toward the BG 3.0 so I'm glad to see that there are so many great reviews about them!

This sounds exactly like something I would write!! I love the bumGenius for all the reasons you listed.

CD's are so addictive. I will never, ever go back!

LOL, I read your comment about how your stash has grown since you wrote this post--I would love to see a pic with ALL of your diapers in it! 53 sounds like a dream to me!

The ribbit is my favorite BG color, too... I love that it is gender neutral... even though I only have girls so far!

I'm a new follower. Love your site.

Thanks for the info on the BumGenius 3.0 - it sounds so awesome. I did more research and I like how they are size adjustable. I was considering making my own but concerned about the time involved. I think if I don't make my own I will try out the BumGenius 3.0.

Thanks again.

I can relate. It's so easy to get addicted! =)

Glad I'm not the only one with a huge stash! Most of mine are fitteds and covers, though!

Question on the BumGenius 3.0 - do you stuff anything extra in those for the overnights? We're just getting ready to switch to cloth at night and I always like to hear about what other people do.

Liz said...

boy do I know that feeling! I'm an addict as well, I've only been cloth diapering for 3 months and I'm in love. I keep buying more and more. My DH has told me no more, but he just doesn't understand all of my options. Now I'm spending my time deciding what kind of a newborn stash I want to build for my next baby (we aren't even TTC).

I too am a diaper addict! Glad to have found others who are in the same 'predicament'.

I love my BGs too...the store was all sold out of the cute colors when I went though! So sad because I love ribbit and moonbeam!

T Rex Mom: Making your own will take some time, especially if you're not accustomed to sewing (or it's been awhile since you've tackled a sewing project).

In my experience, however, I've found that unless you're using recycled materials for your diaper making then they are actually slightly more expensive to make your own versus buying them (and if you factor in how much your time is worth - then buying the diapers can be an even greater savings).

However, the upside to making your own is that you can choose what prints/patterns and materials you use so you can truly have a one of a kind diaper!

kbeebs: Depending on how much your little one wets at night- you might find that you will need to use an additional inserts (or two). The bumGenius diapers come with 2 inserts each - the one-size insert and the newborn/doubler insert... many people find that using both inserts will work for overnight. However, if your little one is a heavy wetter then you will likely want to add a hemp or bamboo insert along with the one-size micro-terry insert the BG's come with in order to get through a leak-proof night. Our BEST insert for this purpose would be the Super Do inserts. These are made with 6 layers of prewashed hemp (so you won't have to go through the prepping process) - and 2 layers of micro-terry... virtually leak proof!

Thanks for sharing. I just moved my diaper stash to the bottom drawer in the dresser. However, there's only 4 diapers in there. The rest are prefolds, they fit in the side drawer.

Oh, wow!! And I thought I was addicted! :)

I don't think people who don't use cloth understand how enjoyable this can be and how addicting! I keep telling my husband I need just "one more" (which i really do!), haha.

Jackie said...

It's nice to know that I am not the only one!! Haha! Once you start, I really do think it is addictive. I always want to try new diapers : )

I'm also a diaper addict! We have 3 BG3.0s (my fave), Happy Heinys, Huggabuns, and one Minkee diaper. I would have even more if my hubby would let me. I need to learn how to sew some...

Katie said...

Me too - it's just so hard to not want the cute new patterns or styles...

I REALLY wish my husband would let me have more diapers for my stash!!!

Liz said...

I am totally addicted to cloth diapers as well! For me, this is my first in cloth (I didnt CD my other 2) and I like buying new diapers for DD as she is not getting many new clothes! At least that is how I justify it!

Jenn said...

i love BG too !! love them !! i love my stash right now but wish i could get more BG or TT .. they fit him better than the FB i have !!

Minnie said...

Wow! That's allot of diapers! I have 41 if you count my 12 flats.

Anna said...

It's so easy to get addicted with so many great options out there :)

Unknown said...

How do you stuff them for overnite?? We were loving these as there was no odor and no leaking. Now, however, both my 2 3/4 yo (just before potty training) and my 6 mo have begun to leak on occasion. Am I not stuffing enough?

I wish that I could afford to buy and try all those different brands...trust me, I'd do it! I LOVE all the cute colors and different kinds. I can't get the Thirsties AIO's to work for me, any advice?

My name is Becky, and I too am a cloth diaper addict. My husband just shakes his head when I tell him I think we need more.

CD's are so so so addicting!

And Baby (sorry, BIG!) Sister is TDF in this post!

Can't wait to see the new little one in her fluff!!

I have done a little research recently on the BumGenius 3.0. I heard that it was AMAZING!

Serena Michelle said...

Jenney: What problems are you having specifically with the Thirsties All-in-One diapers?

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns on our site, Kelly's Closet

Serena Michelle said...

Misty: Usually for overnight I use a prefold and a hemp fleece doubler. The combination of these two provides a great leak-proof protection... However, I've found the Super Do inserts are phenomenally absorbent and relatively trim too! These are usually our top recommendation for a leak proof night (especially when combined with an additional micro-terry insert).

If you find your little one is leaking rather often then it's likely he'll just need some added absorbency to prevent leaks.

I hope this helps!

I am addicted, too. I want more! I love my Bumgenius and my Wonder Wraps covers. I'm dying for them to add some more colors, though. I'm not a big fan of the current three choices.
