I KNOW I save $24 a week bc there have been times i've had to use sposies.

I save at least $30 a week using cloth!

eidolons said...

Probably upwards of $15. I don't recall how much generic disposables cost (haven't used them in over five years), so it's totally a guess. But in a month, when the Beastling is born, I suspect it'd be closer to $30 a week.

I probably save about $15 to $20 a week minimum using cloth as I went on vacation and used sposies and needed 2x 30 diaper packs for the trip!

Well, considering no more money comes out of our bank account, I consider every single diaper free money in our checking account. I last bought 'sposies almost a year ago and it was $10 for enough to last about half a week, so probably $20 a week (fyi I gave half the pack away after finishing our move.)

Jill said...

Thanks for the 'discussions' entry. I had a good laugh at a soon to be mom asking if the boy and girl diapers were any different from bum genius. If so, I've never noticed it!

If I were to use sposies I'd use Tushies most likely since they're gel free and cotton. A week's worth would probably cost us $44 for a box of 120. So we're almost saving $50 a week if we used 10 diapers per day and if you count wipes too!

I imagine the savings per day varies depending on the size disposable diaper you would use. For me since I'll be diapering a newborn soon, I looked at diapering a newborn with approx. 12 changes a day. That's close to $3.30 per day in disposables.

Answer: Not much currently LOL. Because I keep buying cloth diapers. But really if I wasn't buying anything because I really have enough in my stash I'd say at least $12 to $15.5 a week.

My best guess-timate...$25/per week.

I have three kids (3 mo, 2 yrs, 4 yrs). My oldest still wears diapers at night. My middle child is at that stage where she wants to use the potty and constantly takes off her diapers and with disposables would toss them in the trash.

I use cloth wipes as well so that saves some, especially since my second born was caught multiple times 'stealing' disp wipes to clean or whatever.

Assuming an average of 12 diaper changes per day (for my soon-coming newborn), I estimate that we'll save about $15.50 per week. assumptions: initial cd investment= $500; disposibles = $35 for 150; and our little blueberry potty trains around 2.5?

Overall savings over the course of blueberry's diapering life is around $2000. Subsequent 'berries' will amount in extra savings. This is assuming I stick to the $500 initial investment & don't go nuts over fluffies!

Erin said...

We haven't started cloth diapering yet (I'm expecting in May), but we've estimated that when she's a newborn, we could save about $25.00 per week.

Depends on how you look at things - I save at least $20 per week by not using disposables, however, my obsession with cloth has gotten expensive and I probably get a new diaper twice per month, so all said and done I might only save $10 a week right now, but hopefully I can stop myself from buying more for a while so that I start to really see a difference in my savings!

I have no idea how much money we save a week...it has been so long since I bought disposables! Seems how when we DO (rarely) use them we use Seventh Generation, I would guess it would cost us between $10-$14 a week. But we are getting ready for another baby...which would make the cost $20-$28 a week. I think the $10 I budget a month towards cloth diapering (and then buys something ever 2-3 months) is just a drop in that bucket!!!

That's a good question because I don't know how to answer--I wash using community laundry room and pay $1.75 per load (wash and dry). But I have two kids in diapers, and many of my diapers are being reused from the first kid. But whenever I do use disposables, I use the expensive "natural" kind. So it is too complicated and I've never bothered figuring it out; I'm just content to know that I like cloth better, it is better for my kids and the environment, it is cute, and I may be saving some money.

Jamie said...

I think I save about $10 a week cloth diapering.

Anonymous said...

Let's see, my 13 month old is in size 6 diapers. If I were to buy a big pack of pampers cruisers from target that would be 100 diapers for $41.99.

So that's 20 days worth of diapers at 5 changes per day. ($41.99/100) x 5 = $2.10 per day.

$48 worth of prefolds (24). $76.5 worth of covers. Used the same size for the last 6 months (182.5 days) so at 6 diapers/day that's roughly $.68 for every 4 days. So $.17/day (two cents per diaper change).

Savings = $1.93/day!

Over the course of a year that's $704.45!

I have a boy too and they potty train later, right? :D

I've never really used disposables so it's hard to say how much I spend. I used them for the first few weeks of her life until we had about 9 diapers in our stash and then I just washed them A LOT. From those few weeks, I'd say I use about a package of pampers swaddlers (I liked them as far as disposables go) a week and they're around @20. I broke even for awhile, because I always bought pocket diapers so every few weeks I'd just buy a pocket diaper or two instead of a package of disposables.

Now, I'd say I'm saving, finally and I save about $15-$20 a week. But really, it's hard to say since I've never bought a package of disposable diapers myself. Never will, either.
