Organization is the key to success when cloth diapering. I use a few extra accessories to make the stash easily accessible. There’s a Wahmies wet bag for soiled diaps and a small sack of 10 Planetwise Wipes in another wet bag. The side pocket carries a spray bottle to wet the wipes. I repurposed the plastic zippered bag my drapes came in to hold 4-6 diapers. The diaper bag also came with a large surfboard-shaped changing pad. I quickly grab all these changing tools and get everything unzippered before I start. The roomy inside pocket makes it easy to store all this and more.
I have a spare outfit for baby, tshirt for Mama, and a receiving blanket to keep DD warm or cover up nursing in a pinch. I also never leave home without my keys, cell phone, and wallet which each have a special spot in the bag. There’s room for a Nalgene in the mesh side pocket and it has a cooler pouch to store expressed milk. I stash hand sanitizer and snacks, while DH keeps a flashlight and a few first aid items in there.
One of the most convenient features of the bag is the small, detachable sack. It’s the perfect size to store what we need for a single diaper change. This is great for a quick walk or a diaper change in a confined space (think airplane.) Another option is to carry camera gear in it.
So far, even though DH got to pick our go-to bag he has successfully avoided on-the-go diaper changes. He reminded me that men’s restrooms are typically gross, so I forgive him for that. Either way, it’s nice to have a bag he’s proud to carry.
