Baby pain killer isn't the end of the world. Sure try other stuff but if all else fails, read the label, act responsibly and keep you both happy and sane.

We were luckily to not a crazy teether child. My son love the little oval clear silicon teethers from green sprouts and the baby bjorn teething brush. Worked from from fridge or freezer.
I don't know that I have tips exactly but my strategy for this baby is to finally use an amber teething necklace and see how that works. I'm also planning on having various teethers around the house for baby to chew on and I'll also try some frozen foods in a teether/strainer for her to get some cool relief from.
My son was actually a very easy teether, but we still always had teething type toys available, especially the ones that can be frozen! He didn't really like them at first, but the doctor suggested dipping them in some applesauce to make them sweet and once we did that he would chew away and his gums wouldn't hurt so bad :)
Cold teethers or wet wash cloths worked the best for us. We did use those teething tablets but I'm not convinced that they actually helped. Seemed to just distract the child for a bit. Kimberlie
mine won't chew on cold stuff at all tylenol is our only 'safety' and don't forget 'rash' guard for their face or tush. I think molars are the cause for a huge rash we just got cleared up.
TAfterwould be great for my upcoming teether. 6 months and no teeth yet! Hopefully he takes after my side if the family-we didn't have teeth until we could walk.

No good tips, because we're not teething quite yet, but she does love chewing on Sophie the Giraffe!
