I had planned on purchasing one of these nifty diapers but a wonderful and thoughtful friend sent me one as a gift. What a wonderful surprise! I was so excited to finally give this diaper a test wear!
Since the organic cotton soakers had to be prepped, and I had no other items requiring prepping at the time, I decided to wait to wash the soakers and tested the “shell” by itself.
So, for the first couple weeks I used the Gro Baby shell as a diaper cover with my Kiwi Pie Fitteds (another wonderful Natural Baby Company product) and it worked phenomenally well.
A couple weeks later I had finally collected enough items to go through the prepping process for the soakers. I was able to test the diaper as a whole once the soakers were fully prepped (after about 7 washes). I like how the elasticized insert allows itself it to fit on the smaller settings but stretching to fit the larger settings.
The Gro Baby is trim, super absorbent, soft and comfy! Yes, they are cut a tad on the small side for a one size diaper; so if your little one is in the higher end of the percentile for their height and weight, then it’s possible this diaper may not fit until potty training (but most babies do start thinning out after 12 months when they begin walking… My little man is 6 months old and just over 19 pounds, and 28” long (90th percentile). He can wear the medium sized setting on the Gro Baby (I use the largest setting if I’m using it as a cover for the Kiwi Pie Fitted).
One of the best features about this diaper is the "revolutionary" soft loop closure. It doesn’t rub/dig into the belly like some other diapers do… and since you’re able to wrap the tabs over onto one another (in either direction) you can get just the right fit!
Additionally, these diapers will reduce a LOT of bulk from the diaper bag. No more stuffing 2-3 diapers into your not-so-cloth-diaper-friendly diaper bag… simply stuff a couple inserts and one additional shell into your bag and it takes up a lot less space!
I would LOVE to see these diapers offered in a larger variety of colors! The Gro Baby diaper is a wonderful staple for any cloth diaper stash.
Note: As pictured, the kiwi color pairs well with the pair of Phinney BabyLegs!

I love how much less room the inserts take up in my diaper bag. Especially if I am heading out for an entire day!!
I have heard really great things about Gro Baby, especially the soft loop closure system! I can't wait to try one!
Thanks for posting this! I've been contemplating getting some of the Gro Baby diapers, and now I'm convinced. I wasn't too sure until you mentioned the diaper bag. I love cloth diapering but I hate how much room they take up in our bag. The gro baby diapers sound like they take up so little room compared to other diapers:)
I like the soft loop... I hate when I go to change baby's pants and she has red marks on her tummy.
GroBaby is what made me switch to cloth. So easy and I love them more and more as I use them. I have been wanting those baby legs, I've put them in a cart many times but never actually purchased them.
Thanks for the review! I'm very excited to order some and try them out for baby #2!
How great that it worked well over the fitted diaper as a cover. I love the color and can I just say that those BabyLegs are ADORABLE!
The soft loop sounds nice. I wish they would come out some more colors though.
I really like these too! I have found that for my 22 pound, 13 month old daughter with a high rise, I am on the largest setting. So I do question whether or not she will fit in these until potty training...I am thinking about a year away. And I sometimes find that the snap in soaker seems to get a little bunched. That being said, I am absolutely thrilled with closure system. It is super sticky, which is awesome, and it is nice and soft, so nothing is rubbing on my daughter's tummy. And I love how they take up so much less space in the diaper bag.
Wow your little boy is cute! I know I'm supposed to focus on the GroBaby, but he's just so adorable! :) I did order the GroBaby sample pack yesterday though, and I can't wait to get them!
I like how those fit in the diaper bag and so cute too!
Love the pictures and thanks for sharing your take on Gro Baby!
OMG, I really need to try these!!!!!
Its nice to hear a real person describe the fit of these dipes! And, I don't know why I didn't think about using the shell as a cover before - then I could get even more use out of them!
I am really looking forward to using my grobaby diapers now! I have heard so many positive things about them, and really love the two I have so far. Thanks for the great review!
Glad to read your review Serena. I wondered about the dipes-to-PT thing. Good info to keep in mind.
Question: Since I've been on the Soft Bums bandwagon; could you provide some insight about how GroBabies compare to SoftBums (i recog this is off-topic so feel free to email me eye_sha22@yahoo.com)
Aisha:
The Soft Bums and Gro Baby diapers are similar in concept - being a One Size All-in-Two design.
Soft Bums are the "original" one in my opinion, and they make a wonderful diaper!
The uniqueness with the Gro Baby diaper is [redominantly the mesh lining as well as the soft loop technology.
The Soft Bums is unique in that it utilizes a hidden adjustable rise via toggles (very easy) versus a frontsnap up/down rise adjustment. Soft Bums also uses a variety of material options for their soakers - so you can choose bamboo with velour, hemp, or microfleece and micro-terry... Soft Bums is also planning on coming out with a snap closure soon too!
I like them equally. However, the Gro Baby does serve a dual purpose since I can use them as a diaper cover over my Kiwi Pie fitteds - so they get a bonus point for that!
The Soft Bums however are the most trim - so when I'm looking to put a pair of jeans on my little guy- then I reach for my Soft Bums (or the BG Organic AIO w/snaps).
I hope this helps!

That diaper bag picture just might have sold me on Gro baby!
Great review!! I would LOVE to try this diaper. Its just out of budget range.
I love that these take up less space in the diaper bag. That's one issue I have with most one-sized diapers. I agree that they are slightly out of my diapering budget, however, the fact that they can be used as a cover for other diapers is a bonus!
I so agree with "Coconuts" I want to try one so badly but the budget isn't as allowing as I'd like, I posted the stuff my little guy is growing out of (clothes and shoes) on a site to raise money for the sample pack, its his stuff so his money that I get to use for dipes. With some sales I'll be able to order the sample pack soon!
I have one Grobaby and I really like it. It is a smaller diaper and it fits my smaller boys really well. I love the soft loop closure. I wonder how it will hold up compared to regular aplix.
I haven't heard of these cloth diapers before so I will be looking into them. I love the blackberry and mandarin colors. I bet these diapers would look great with a design.
Thanks for the review...I like the slimmer diaper bag with the GroBaby!
Great review...I had never heard of this brand before reading your blog! We're expecting our second child this fall and plan on making the switch to cloth diapers - so I'm researching the goods :-)
These look so cool! I would love to try them!
Thanks for the review, Serena! I need a new night-time diaper. Would you recommend them for that?
great pictures of everything, thanks!
Thanks for the more detailed info on your own use of these diapers. It sure sounds like a great system!

oh my i need a grobaby for my diaper bag :) lol thanks for this post and i love love love the green !
Ok, I think it's fantastic that you can use the shell w/ the soakers included or you can use it as a cover over other diapers and maybe even with pre-folds. It's great to know that they run on the smaller side as far as one size diaps go. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to get my hands on one of these diapers. And I agree about the colors....I wish they had a bigger variety to choose from.

After reading this it really does spark my interest in these diapers even more. Can't wait to try them out.
thanks for the review! I can't wait to try these on my little one (expected to arrive in July!! :))
Your little guy is so cute!!
*~*a.l.s*~* :
Unless your little one isn't a very heavy wetter overnight - then I don't know that these would work for overnight (unless you add a couple boosters). For heavy overnight wetters I will always recommend a pocket diaper stuffed with a Super Do Prewashed hemp insert (and an additional micro-terry insert for super soaker children) - that combo is hands-down the most leakproof for overnight!
Glad to know the shells can also be used over other diapers if needed. Thats swesome. Thanks for sharing :)
Ohh... I want to try one of these! They look great!
Thanks for this review about Gro Baby! I really want to check these out--especially their soft loop closure system!
I've successfully used the Grobaby with the doubler that comes with it for overnight. My 7 month old baby had it on for about 10 hours with no leaks!
These look so cool! I love how they seem to take up so much less space in the diaper bag. I can't wait to be able to buy one of these and try it out. Thanks for sharing!
Oh Great to know!

We love our GroBaby! Very trim and absorbent. And we love the soft loop, too.
Thank you for posting a "real" review of this diaper! If I thought I wanted one before, I REALLY want one now!
My only complaint about the gro baby diapers is that you can only get the snap closure in vanilla. They're awesome diapers and work really well especially with their versatility, but my 9 month old daughter refuses to leave any of her diapers on though so hook and loop closures are just not an option for us. I keep hoping that they'll come out with all the cute prints in snap closure
