My New Favorite Diaper and Soon to be Your Favorite Too

Let me begin this romance story with the tale of how I met the new diaper I love. I went to this year’s Pinellas County Great Cloth Diaper Change (GCDC); sponsored by Kelly’s Closet, Molly Suds and Dirty Diaper Laundry. Moms from the area joined together to be part of a worldwide endeavor to make a Guinness World Record.

On April 26th 2014, the GCDC united caregivers across 18 countries to achieve the new world record for the most people changing diapers in 24 hours at multiple venues. A total of 8,459 babies were changed into a cloth diaper. The record is a great achievement toward global awareness for cloth diaper use.

At the GCDC event, I had the opportunity to make a donation to the Real Diaper Association in exchange for raffle tickets. I was excited to try my luck, for a good cause, at winning a myriad of cloth diaper goodies.

Well, who knew?! I was a lucky gal that day and took away a new Thirsties One Size Pocket Diaper. I have to admit I was pretty excited to win something—I hardly ever win prizes—but I did not know that the Thirsties One Size Pocket Diaper would become my new favorite in my cloth diaper stash.

There are a few reasons why I am so in love. First I love the fit. It is slimmer in comparison to other major cloth diaper brands. This narrow design allows for a more natural leg position, so those parents who worry about hip dysplasia this may be the cloth diaper for you. Also, the fit is less “fluffy” and looks much better under stretchy pants in comparison to other pocket diapers. The elastic legs are designed for a nice snug fit and have gussets to keep solids from leaking out while the waist has double snaps for added security.

Another great feature is the double open pocket ends. That’s right the “pocket” is a sleeve that opens at each end. The dual opening makes it easy to load, allowing you to grab it out of the basket and load without looking, with the ability to pull the insert into position from the opposite end. This feature is totally amazing for another reason, you can simple throw the Thirsties One Size Pocket Diaper into the laundry and the insert will agitate itself out—no pulling out the dirty insert, no inserts bunched at the end of a cleaned pocket diaper. You mean my diapers are going to get cleaner without me having to do any more work? Awesome!

Finally, the Thirsties One Size Pocket Diaper comes with two inserts for the user to adjust the absorbency for her needs. This diaper is designed for babies 8-40 lbs. (0-36 months). The newborn insert is 100% polyester-microfiber terry, and the second insert is a full size hemp cotton which combined makes a total of 8 layers of absorbency (I like using both since, as you may already know, hemp is the most absorbent insert material but micro fiber is best against baby’s skin—keeping her dry). How can it get better? These inserts snap together, allowing for various configurations, and will not separate when agitated in the washing machine, but loose enough for proper cleaning. You never have to hunt for your matching inserts again.

If the above reasons haven’t convinced you that the new Thirsties One Size Pocket Diaper is the way to go, here is a list of reasons why you should love Thirsties too!
  •  It’s a Family owned business
  • Their diapers are manufactured in the US
  • They use green shipping and printing practices
  • They recycle 100% of their fabric scraps
  • Their warehouse/offices are 100% powered by wind energy
  • All carbon created in the transport of Thirsties products is 100% offset by Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
The Thirsties One Size Pocket Diaper truly has become my number one favorite diaper in my stash. I can’t believe I would have never tried it unless Kelly’s Closet and Thirsties so generously donated it as a raffle prize for the Pinellas County Great Cloth Diaper Change. You have to try this diaper for yourself. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
